There are some foods that people seem only to love or hate, with nothing and no one in between. I'm wondering if that's really true, or if some just bring out extreme opinions but aren't really as polarizing as they seem. There are people, after all, who don't love fish, but can tolerate or even mildly enjoy a good fish'n'chips or blackened sole. People who aren't fans of lamb, but can still appreciate good shawarma.

And then there's liver. Seems as if people who like it, love it, and everyone else hates it. Likewise braunschweiger. And sardines? It's like a holy war!

I could eat liver and onions at least once a week, if taste were the only consideration. I love braunschweiger, although it's a bit rich for every day. And I like sardines, but I couldn't eat them for lunch every day, as a former colleague of mine did. Boy, did that bring out the haters! I was raised not to comment on what others were eating. It was considered very rude to say, "Yuck! That's gross!" if the kid next to you brought mayonnaise and raw onion sandwiches for lunch, or your friend's parents fed you rare steak (I politely lied and said I wasn't very hungry, then listened to my stomach complain to my backbone for the entire sleepover.) Anyway, that rule apparently didn't hold sway in a lot of families, because my co-workers used to rag on Caroline (the sardine eater) mercilessly for her choice of lunch protein.

So, no need for a formal poll, just weigh in if the spirit moves you. Love it, hate it...is anybody just indifferent or so-so?
