We are strattled with RCV (rank choice voting) as you know. You have all followed the Peltola "Decoy Dan" debacle but I want to fill you in on the other manipulation that's occurring. I urge you to never let the camel's nose of RCV under your tent flap.

Briefly, RCV has open primaries so there are multiple choices (about 40+) for positions like governor. You vote for one choice. The top four vote getters get on the main ballet. You then rank your choices on that ballet - 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th.

In our governor primary a past democrat governor entered the primary at the deadline and secured the second most votes from name recognition. Immediately after the primary he dropped out of the race leaving only one Democrat and three Republicans on the ballet. Whoever gets to 50% +1 first after the election wins. If you can convince the conservatives to "rank the red" and vote for all three Republican candidates in order we will win. But many who oppose RCV hardheadedly refuse to vote for more than one choice. If that choice is the fourth lowest vote getter and you didn't pick a 2nd choice your vote is eliminated as if you did not vote.

We are getting mailings urging us to resist RCV and only vote for one person. Those mailings are obvious coming from left leaning PAC's trying to manipulate the RCV voting process to win the election.

There are some foods that people seem only to love or hate, with nothing and no one in between. I'm wondering if that's really true, or if some just bring out extreme opinions but aren't really as polarizing as they seem. There are people, after all, who don't love fish, but can tolerate or even mildly enjoy a good fish'n'chips or blackened sole. People who aren't fans of lamb, but can still appreciate good shawarma.

And then there's liver. Seems as if people who like it, love it, and everyone else hates it. Likewise braunschweiger. And sardines? It's like a holy war!

I could eat liver and onions at least once a week, if taste were the only consideration. I love braunschweiger, although it's a bit rich for every day. And I like sardines, but I couldn't eat them for lunch every day, as a former colleague of mine did. Boy, did that bring out the haters! I was raised not to comment on what others were eating. It was considered very rude to say, "Yuck! That's gross!" if the kid next to you brought mayonnaise and raw onion sandwiches for lunch, or your friend's parents fed you rare steak (I politely lied and said I wasn't very hungry, then listened to my stomach complain to my backbone for the entire sleepover.) Anyway, that rule apparently didn't hold sway in a lot of families, because my co-workers used to rag on Caroline (the sardine eater) mercilessly for her choice of lunch protein.

So, no need for a formal poll, just weigh in if the spirit moves you. Love it, hate it...is anybody just indifferent or so-so?

By Kellen Browning
Oct. 28, 2026, 10:37 a.m. ET

In the summer of 2025, a staffer for Mary Peltola, the Alaska Democrat who was eyeing a run for Senate, received unusual instructions from top campaign aides: Find as many people named Dan Sullivan in Alaska as you can.

The staffer complied, combing through voter records to produce a list of Dan Sullivans from across the state.

This was no random request. Dan S. Sullivan is the name of the state’s Republican senator. And if the Peltola campaign or its allies could track down and persuade another Dan Sullivan to run for Senate, the confusion could cost the senator crucial votes on the state’s unusual, four-person ballot.

The plan worked. This spring, a retired teacher from a tiny fishing village along the Alaska Panhandle, reachable only by air and sea, announced his candidacy for Senate. His name was Dan J. Sullivan.

The Peltola campaign has repeatedly denied any involvement in his candidacy. But The Times has found, based on interviews and text messages, along with documents prepared for a potential lawsuit against the campaign, that not only did Ms. Peltola’s team work with people trying to recruit Mr. Sullivan to run for Senate, but the effort was much broader. The group worked to coax other would-be spoilers into the race, to dilute the incumbent’s support and help catapult the Democrat to victory.

People continue to ram their heads into walls.

An excerpt:

And then at the other end of the scale, we have a small island named El Hierro off the coast of Spain. El Hierro only has about 11,000 people, but in 2008 it set out to show the world how to do a full transition to an electric system powered only by wind turbines backed up by a hydro-electric energy storage system.

I have reported on the progress of the El Hierro system multiple times, for example here in 2022, here in 2023, and here in 2024. But it has been more than two years since my last update. So let’s check in.

What makes El Hierro significant is that the promoters actually thought they were going to make a full-time grid based just on the wind turbines and storage. We know that because they have said so repeatedly. But somehow, in their quasi-religious devotion to the cause, they never took time to do the straightforward arithmetic calculations that would have revealed what makes this unworkable.

The El Hierro wind/storage electricity system has the name Gorona del Viento. The system started operating in 2013. The Gorona del Viento entity has a website with large portions in English where you can go to see their claims, and measure those against the actual performance in real life. From the opening page:

An island 100% renewable energy. . . . Gorona del Viento El Hierro, S.A.´s Wind-Pumped Hydro Power Station is designed to supply the Meridian Island with electrical energy derived from clean, renewable energy sources such as water and wind. The Wind Farm has capacity to fully meet El Hierro´s demand for electricity. The surplus wind energy which is not consumed by the Island´s population is used to pump water from a lower reservoir to a higher reservoir. This water is stored in the upper reservoir and used to produce electricity by means of a hidraulic jump at times when the wind power is inadequate.

(Emphasis added.). They explicitly brag that the island will have “100% renewable energy,” and that the wind farm “has the capacity” to fully meet the demand for electricity. The wind farm actually has well more than that “capacity” — if nameplate “capacity” were the relevant factor in determining if a generation system can supply demand as it appears. Read on in the website, and you find out that the wind farm has a nameplate capacity of 11.5 MW, whereas average electricity demand on the island is less than 5 MW. So there is well more than a 2x “overbuild.” With a big elevated pumped reservoir to store energy for when the wind isn’t blowing, surely that should be sufficient to meet the goal.

After the first few years of operation, in 2018 Gorona del Viento started putting out some detailed statistics on the performance of the system. This link goes to a page containing further links to individual pages with the statistics for 2018 and succeeding years. In the first year reported, 2018, the wind/storage system provided 56% of the electricity for the island, with the remainder provided by a diesel generator that they had (thankfully) kept as backup. But then it never really got better. In 2019 it was 54%; in 2020, 42%; in 2021, 48%; in 2022, 48%; and in 2023, only 35%; for 2024 45%; and for 2025, 44%. Here is their bar chart for 2023:
So the headline page brags about “100% renewable energy,” but in actual performance the best they have ever achieved over a full year is barely over 50%, and the last time they broke 50% was in 2019.

Why can’t they get more than that from this seemingly overbuilt system? Because there are long stretches where the wind does not blow. During those stretches the storage reservoir gets emptied and can’t be refilled. My 2022 post mentioned above linked to a calculation by a guy named Roger Andrews at the Energy Matters website showing that, to reach self-sufficiency with just a wind/storage system, El Hierro would need about double the wind turbine capacity and some 40 times the storage capacity (to deal with worst-case wind droughts). Even if they could afford such a reservoir, they have no place on the island to put it.

Meanwhile, in the face of the experience of El Hierro, places like New York, California, Germany and the UK continue to plow forward as if wind/solar/storage electricity systems can work. It’s as if it’s not possible to learn from experience.
As Democrats push to gain control of Congress, polls that may have shown them leading various battleground races have been exposed as part of a widespread fraud.

A group called Wedgewood Polling admitted that the numbers it tossed around in Georgia, Michigan, Texas, and other states were fake, according to USA Today, which was among the outlets that said they were fooled.

"The Wedgewood results in some cases were slightly more favorable for Democrats than other polls in the same race,” USA Today noted, citing one poll that had incumbent Georgia Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff ahead of his Republican rival, Rep. Mike Collins, by 10 percentage points.

Time noted that Newsweek, MS NOW, and Politico also embraced the fake polling. The New York Times admitted to using 15 of Wedgewood’s polls.
Wedgewood Polling on Tuesday released a statement on X saying that it was an "experimental project to demonstrate the vulnerabilities, lack of oversight, and overall low barrier to entry in the modern political polling industry."

The group said it was "far too easy" for their polls to "gain traction" and "be taken seriously."

"Despite having no history, formal credentials, or real data behind the vast majority of our releases, Wedgewood Polling was added to major polling aggregators, including The New York Times, FiftyPlusOne, and VoteHub, and repeatedly treated as a legitimate data source," the statement reads.

"Our fabricated numbers were given instant credibility across national media platforms—including being cited on air and in reporting by outlets such as MS NOW. The ease with which unverified figures were absorbed into mainstream political narratives highlights a systemic breakdown in media vetting and data aggregation."
In August and this month, four different polling outfits were exposed for fabricating data.

In August, Median Strategies admitted inventing polls on the Los Angeles mayoral contest and the election races in Nevada and Wisconsin as a “social experiment”.

That same month, an outfit called Public Sentiment admitted having altered data in the Florida GOP primary polls in order to favor a client.

This month two more firms were exposed: Wedgewood Polls and SoCal Strategies. Wedgewood (about which I can find the most follow-up) was widely promoted by the NY Times and the Silver Bulletin, its most broadly touted figures promoted Michigan Democratic senatorial candidate Abdul El-Sayed.

SoCal was also unmasked this month, after people started poking around into its personnel ties to Wedgewood .

She says "every one of them is guilty of interfering with elections," but her suspicion is not necessarily an attempt to elect Democrats, but rather an attempt to rig the betting sites:
Per Grok, there has been over “$1.4 billion in trading volume so far on 2026 U.S. midterm-related markets (as of late October 2026) according to a CNN analysis published 23, 2026. Kalshi (the largest such regulated platform) had a volume of over $1.1 billion, and Polymarket more than $340 million.

Call me an unredeemed cynic if you will, but when there is so much money riding on the election prediction market, I think people are likely scamming the data for a more lucrative reason than just influencing elections.

It may be that pro-Democrat polling had a more gullible market.
The traditional media have posted this nonsense clearly without any vetting and should now be red-faced. Not only has the polling industry taken a massive blow, but so have the outlets that promoted this garbage.

The NYT just removed 15 fake election surveys that it had included in its tracking surveys. USA Today, which, like the rest of the media pack, touted polling garbage, claims there’s a silver lining in this black mark against the polling industry -- that now the media will be more careful. Some “silver lining.”

You can't hate the media enough, as they say.

The corruption is already baked into this election. Campaign funding decisions have been made, for example. Whatever consequences follow will be well after the horses have left the barn, as they say.

I'd say the legacy media has trashed whatever shreds of credibility they had laft, but we follow media so widely divided left and right that the left will hardly notice. The NYT will pronounce the problem solved, if they mention it at all. And that's that.

Last evening we had dinner with a very liberal friend. I was amused (politely) to see that she knew about and was alarmed by Kimberly Guilfoyle's misadventures, but had absolutely no idea Ilhan Omar was in any sort of legal difficulties.
