Meanwhile, remember this rising Democratic star?

Former Dem rep fired by Morgan Stanley after harassment investigation
Former Rep. Harold Ford Jr. (D-Tenn.) was fired from his job at Morgan Stanley after an investigation into a harassment complaint from a female co-worker, HuffPost reported Thursday.

The woman, who requested to remain anonymous, alleged that Ford forcibly grabbed her one evening in New York City several years ago. She also accused Ford of harassment and intimidation, according to HuffPost.

      (snip)

Ford denied the alleged incident took place, saying in a statement posted by a CNN reporter that he has “never forcibly grabbed any woman or man in my life.”
If these were calmer times, I'd go, What!? When someone gets fired on such a flimsy pretext (by this report) it usually means they really, really wanted to fire him, and needed a serviceable excuse.

I suspect that's still the case, even in these hysterical times.

Meanwhile, the end of the report reminds me, "Ford’s father, Harold Ford Sr., served in Congress for more than two decades before retiring and being replaced by his son."

        Franken's not quitting.

He said "next several weeks," and he didn't confess anything. He's waiting to see what develops, and frankly, probably hopes Roy Moore wins and hamstrings the Senate.

Why should Franken quit is Moore won't? the line will be. That's my guess.

Nobody likes him. He's an odious person. But if Moore wins, I think the Senate will be stuck with Franken too.

You can't have too many toads in Congress, I guess.

Yes, because most people in this country are intensely interested in the peccadilloes of obscure Tennessee legislators. The financial scandals are especially important for purposes of evaluating allegations of sexual misconduct, decades later, by someone who isn't a Tennessee legislator.
"Since the historic ruling, the Lovings have become icons for equality. Mildred released a statement on the 40th anniversary of the ruling in 2007: 'I am proud that Richard’s and my name is on a court case that can help reinforce the love, the commitment, the fairness, and the family that so many people, Black or white, young or old, gay or straight, seek in life. I support the freedom to marry for all. That’s what Loving, and loving, are all about.'." - Mildred Loving (Loving v. Virginia)

Actually, no, it's because the entire family has a long and wide history of being crooked and dishonest, at the very least, in pretty much every aspect of their lives.

                  another day

This guy says he's leaving Jan. 31. Two questions come up.

First, what Party is this politician in? Sometimes the answer is buried deep inside the report, or occasionally not even reported.

Second, do you think Franken will have actually resigned by then? If Rob Moore wins, I think Franken will not resign.

Rep. Trent Franks to resign after discussing surrogacy with female staffers
[Subhead] The Arizona Republican is a vocal social conservative who authored numerous anti-abortion bills.

Rep. Trent Franks (R-Ariz.) announced Thursday that he would resign from office as of Jan. 31, 2018, after discussing surrogacy issues with female staffers.

“I have recently learned that the Ethics Committee is reviewing an inquiry regarding my discussion of surrogacy with two previous female subordinates, making each feel uncomfortable,” he said in a statement. “I deeply regret that my discussion of this option and process in the workplace caused distress.”

                  Franks’ announcement shocked Capitol Hill....
"Franks is the third lawmaker to announce plans to resign this week as the furor over sexual misconduct and harassment sweeps Capitol Hill. He will be the first Republican to vacate his post amid the growing scandal."

                          I like this part...

the preponderance of men I've worked with - who don't do this kind of thing and whose lives aren't going to be affected,' Damon told Business Insider on Monday while promoting his upcoming movie, Downsizing.

'I don't do that, and most of the people I know don't do that,' he said.
                          (emphasis mine)
So he admits he does know some people he works with are sexual gutter trash, but apparently the courage of his convictions prevents his naming them.
Well, that and 5 to 25 million a picture.

That's the problem of applying your own professional "bubble" to everybody.

I didn't know a lot of people who faked data or who used dubious math or personal connections to squeak into publication but I did know some.

On a personal level, I might say that this is uncommon and doesn't affect the field. Because I read widely and follow scientific fraud, I know that my personal experience is not realistic. There's a ton of fraud and it affects everything.

The same is true of this current witch hunt. There's a ton of legitimate sexual manipulation and a ton of imaginary complaint and a ton of sexual quid pro quo - and it's affecting everything.
                              "Alexa, slaughter the fatted calf."

The one thing that has always puzzled me long before this latest imbroglio is the definition of "unwanted sexual advance" or "inappropriate sexual behavior".
The term is always defined by the receiver of the unwanted attention and like most everything else in interpersonal relationships, subject to bias.

Is physical or verbal attention from Quasimodo an unwanted advance or inappropriate behavior and the same attention from a GQ coverboy not?
Same for a poor guy in a shabby trailer park and driving a beat up Honda compared to a well off guy in a Porsche?

How much of this, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder?
                                We are so fucked.
