Officials identify suspect in shooting that killed 10 at Texas' Santa Fe High School

(CNN)Ten people were killed and 10 others were wounded Friday morning by a teenager with a shotgun and a revolver at a high school in the southeastern Texas city of Santa Fe, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said.

Authorities have said two people have been detained in the shooting at Santa Fe High School. The Galveston County Sheriff's Office identified the shooter as Dimitrios Pagourtzis, who is 17.

He is in jail, accused of capital murder, the sheriff's office said. Nine students and one teacher died, a law enforcement official told CNN.

The alleged shooter used a shotgun and a .38 revolver that were legally owned by his father, Abbott told reporters. Two school resource officers were on the campus and confronted the shooter "early on in the process," Abbott said.
    Here we go again.
    Enjoy.

The deliberate attacks on reality are getting quicker.

Fake Facebook accounts and online lies multiply in hours after Santa Fe school shooting

In the first hours after the Texas school shooting that left at least 10 dead Friday, online hoaxers moved quickly to spread a viral lie, creating fake Facebook accounts with the suspected shooter's name and a doctored photo showing him wearing a "Hillary 2016" hat.

Several were swiftly flagged by users and deleted by the social network. But others rose rapidly in their place: Chris Sampson, a disinformation analyst for a counterterrorism think tank, said he could see new fakes as they were being created and filled out with false information, including images linking the suspect to the anti-fascist group Antifa.
    Enjoy.

Well, it seems like the same old story.

He played football successfully but was reportedly bullied.

He performed Greek dance through an Orthodox church but self-described as an atheist.

He was quiet. He wore a ridiculous trench coat when it 90 degrees.

      He stole his Dad's guns.

He made a lot of pipe bombs.

His big suicide plan apparently failed.

Nobody is even shocked anymore. Hers is the most damning comment I've heard.

I'm far more likely to have her older Sister or Brother T-bone me at an intersection and kill me and whatever class mates they have in the car, while texting and driving. Statistically, the accident is far more likely. I agree, nobody is ever shocked anymore.

I did a Newman and checked CNBC, CNN, FNS, FBN, and yes, MSNBC. In the early afternoon, ALL of them were focused on better security for schools. It seems the guns that were used wouldn't fit the usual narrative of the media.
May we raise children who love the unloved things - the dandelion, the worm, the spiderlings.
Children who sense the rose needs the thorn and run into rainswept days the same way they turn towards the sun...
And when they're grown and someone has to speak for those who have no voice,
may they draw upon that wilder bond, those days of tending tender things and be the one.

This stuff is just baffling to me.

When I was in high school I would say that the "school culture" (for lack of a better term) was way more potentially dangerous. Nobody cared about bullies except their victims, teens were very unsupervised in those days, and probably a third of the class had access to guns or actually owned their own firearms - heck, I was on the girl's rifle team! Kids then also drank and more than a few smoked weed or did worse. Boys certainly got into fights both on and off school grounds. Most kids where I lived then had some beater car so we all highly mobile and whenever possible, far away from adult interference.

It seems like it would be a recipe for catastrophe (at least as we view these things today).

Yet nothing like this ever happened where I lived. Nobody got shot or stabbed. Nobody tried to intentionally blow up the school. Even the testosterone-fueled fights ended up with all participants walking away.

              "Alexa, slaughter the fatted calf."

Well, back then they would simply expel you if they found out you did it but my school never had much of that kind of thing. Writing something lurid on the inside of a toilet stall door was about the extent of vandalism and teachers checked the bathrooms every day and got that stuff removed pretty quickly.

We weren't angels by any means but destruction of school property just wasn't a big thing. And if you had done something and been discovered, whatever the school did to you would irrelevant compared to what your folks would do to you.

One thing that impressed me among the first reports was the SRO who was injured, but who apparently confronted the shooter, instead of hiding outside like Sheriff Israel's Cowards of Broward.

As Michele suggested, the difference in weapons might at least derail the usual anti-gun sloganeering. It would be a great boon to the anti-violence crowd if that were so.

Despite many brave predictions and towering expectations, the push for "common sense gun control" following the Parkland shooting has fizzled worse than the Mueller investigation of Russian collusion. It wasn't helped by anti-NRA hysterics, stunts like the CNN "Town Hall," or adolescent performances by the Parkland heroettes such as Emma Gonzalez, who volunteered in a public forum yesterday (5/17):

“Go join the Army if you want to have fun shooting off a weapon, and serve your fucking country.”

A shotgun and a .38 pistol don't fit the narrative as well.

More disturbing for me are the pipe bombs and other explosive devices. There doesn't seem to be a huge youth outcry against these devices.

Of course, they are already illegal as is stealing guns and murder.
