If anyone has been following this story, no current link yet, but local news is reporting that the body of Noah Chamberlain has been found this afternoon.
It's been ten years since that lonely day I left you
In the morning rain, smoking gun in hand
Ten lonely years but how my heart, it still remembers
Pray for me, momma, I'm a gypsy now
Terrible. Not only have the parents lost a child and the grandparents lost a grandchild, but the rest of the family will likely be torn apart. How could the parents not blame the grandmother, even though anyone who has had an active 2-year-old knows they can disappear from sight in a heartbeat, even with the most vigilant parent right there.
"Since the historic ruling, the Lovings have become icons for equality. Mildred released a statement on the 40th anniversary of the ruling in 2007: 'I am proud that Richard’s and my name is on a court case that can help reinforce the love, the commitment, the fairness, and the family that so many people, Black or white, young or old, gay or straight, seek in life. I support the freedom to marry for all. That’s what Loving, and loving, are all about.'." - Mildred Loving (Loving v. Virginia)
All indications are that he just managed to get away and out of earshot before anyone knew what happened.
There will be an autopsy, per the family's request. The local and state authorities have continuously insisted that there is no indication that this is anything but a tragic accident.

Did he fall or drown? Sorry, I just didn't see how he died. Such a shame.
Went out on a hike with his grandmother and some other family and disappeared. Apparently just managed to wander away into the woods when no one was looking.
My best guess is that he ultimately died of exposure to the elements, but the autopsy will say for sure.

I've been following it. The grandma stopped to help his four year old sister and turned around and he was gone. Heartbreaking, just devastating.
May we raise children who love the unloved things - the dandelion, the worm, the spiderlings.
Children who sense the rose needs the thorn and run into rainswept days the same way they turn towards the sun...
And when they're grown and someone has to speak for those who have no voice,
may they draw upon that wilder bond, those days of tending tender things and be the one.

All of my kids have been hiking with me, none of them when they were two unless they were physically strapped to my body.
This is not a case of tragedy, this is a case of incompetence. There's way way more to the story here but Granma's situation pulls sympathy with jury focus groups.
They got inebriated and forgot about the kid.
