Former First Lady Nancy Reagan Dead at 94

    Love story.

    http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/...ead-94-n532871
Nancy Reagan, one of the most high-profile and influential first ladies of the 20th century, has died. She was 94.

The cause of death was congestive heart failure, according to her rep Joanne Drake, a spokeswoman with the Reagan Library.

"Mrs. Reagan will be buried at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California, next to her husband, Ronald Wilson Reagan, who died on June 5, 2004," Drake wrote in a statement.
Prior to the funeral service, there will be an opportunity for members of the public to pay their respects at the Library."

"It is a very sad day," former Ronald Reagan Chief of Staff Ken Duberstein told NBC News. "Every time she was in the room, he was better, and every time he was in the room she was better. She brought a sense of class and dignity and elegance that everybody admired."

Her step-son Michael Reagan posted on Facebook: "She is once again with the man she loved. God Bless."

I had no idea she was still alive.
"Since the historic ruling, the Lovings have become icons for equality. Mildred released a statement on the 40th anniversary of the ruling in 2007: 'I am proud that Richard’s and my name is on a court case that can help reinforce the love, the commitment, the fairness, and the family that so many people, Black or white, young or old, gay or straight, seek in life. I support the freedom to marry for all. That’s what Loving, and loving, are all about.'." - Mildred Loving (Loving v. Virginia)

Obama Skipping Nancy Reagan Funeral to Go to SXSW

He's too busy watching movies. Wonder how much any of the Reagan family and friends will care...........

      0http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/obama-skipping-nancy-reagan-funeral-to-go-to-sxsw/ar-AAgxw1p?li=BBnbfcL&ocid=iehp
President Barack Obama will not attend Nancy Reagan‘s funeral this Friday, keeping his originally scheduled appearance as a keynote speaker at the South by Southwest (SXSW) Interactive festival. First Lady Michelle Obama, who is scheduled to speak at SXSW on Wednesday, will attend the funeral.

“The president will not attend” Mrs. Reagan’s funeral, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest told reporters Tuesday. “The president is actually traveling in Texas on Friday.”

The SXSW Interactive Festival is an annual symposium for digital startups and emerging technologies that takes place each year in Austin, Texas, concurrently with a film and music festival.

      According to SXSW’s website:

[The president] will sit down with Editor in Chief of The Texas TribuneEvan Smith for a conversation about civic engagement in the 21st Century before an audience of creators, early adopters and entrepreneurs who are defining the future of our connected lives. The President will call on the audience to apply their ideas and talents to make technology work for us – especially when it comes to tackling big challenges like increasing participation in the political process and fighting climate change.

After the event, President Obama will travel to Dallas, Texas, where he will stay the night.

The president courted outrage just a few weeks ago, when he did not attend the funeral of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, though he did appear at a memorial service. He also did not attend the funeral of First Lady Betty Ford in 2011, though Michelle Obama did.

3 Reasons Why I Miss Having Nancy Reagan As America’s First Lady

A little smarmy, but it's a nice tribute.

        http://qpolitical.com/2-days-after-n...st-thing-ever/
On Sunday, the world grieved the loss of one of America’s classiest and most admirable women, Nancy Reagan.

In a country full of Hillary Clintons and Michelle Obamas, Nancy Reagan’s eight years in the White House from 1981 to 1989, stands far above the others.

And it’s easy to see why Nancy is unparalleled when it comes to being one of the most widely-respected First Ladies our nation has ever had.

I’ve always loved the ever-classy Nancy Reagan, but after learning a bit more about her extraordinary life, my respect for this woman has grown all the more.

Nancy’s life was spectacular, but President Obama doesn’t even have the decency to show his face at her funeral. Michelle Obama announced that she would be going, but why she won’t bring her husband is beyond me. Instead, he’s going to Austin for the South by Southwest (SXSW®) conference and festival as a keynote speaker. It’s horrible.

Here are three reasons why Michelle Obama and Hillary Clinton will never be Nancy Reagan:

        1. Nancy Reagan adored her husband and faithfully stood by his side until the very end, their lifetime of love inspired thousands.

Nancy’s lifelong love affair with President Reagan was simply undeniable. The adorable lovebirds met on November 15, 1949, while working in Hollywood. Nancy was a beautiful young actress and as fate would have it, Reagan was the president of the Screen Actors Guild and had divorced one year prior, due to his first wife’s humiliating affair.

          RIP Mrs Reagan.
Maybe she, "Ronnie", & Justice Scalia can put in a good word for us. Gawd knows we need it.

I can't remember ever defending Obama, but in this, I believe I am.
Michelle Obama will attend the funeral, & since Nancy was FLOTUS, & now Michelle is FLOTUS, I think it's appropriate.
I'm ok with Obama not attending not that he gives a muciferous wally draggle whether I am ok wit it or not.

If what I heard this morning is accurate, it's more common than not for only the current first lady to attend the funeral of a former FLOTUS.
May we raise children who love the unloved things - the dandelion, the worm, the spiderlings.
Children who sense the rose needs the thorn and run into rainswept days the same way they turn towards the sun...
And when they're grown and someone has to speak for those who have no voice,
may they draw upon that wilder bond, those days of tending tender things and be the one.

Does this mean we can carp about Hillary attending or not attending (depending on which she decides to do)?
                    Enjoy.

What do you mean by "this"? The fact that 5 out of 6 that commented agree that obanas failure to attend is a nonissue?

I'm glad all of the "Steel Magnolias" are attending the services.
Like any of them or dislike, they did/do not have an easy job. Thus the "Steel Magnolias".

You mean all the comments about former first ladies attending? Hillary is a former first lady. Small 'o' "obana" (assuming you mean Barack) is not.
                          Enjoy.
