    What kind of stuff should I get At the Omni-Asian Supermarket?

    A friend and I are going to a big omni-Asian super market tomorrow down in Denver. This place caters to all and is master of none so we can find stuff for Chinese, Thai, Indian, Cambodian, Japanese, etc.

    My list so far:

    Chili oil
    Chili paste
    Cheap shallots
    Fish
    Shaoxing wine
    Bonita flakes
    Dried mushrooms
    Canned baby corn

    ??????

    What else should I look for?

    Pearl River Mushroom Soy. No other brand. Very dark rich Soy.

      Bean Thread Noodles (vermicelli noodles). Look up a recipe with ground Lamb or Pork called "Ants Climbing the Trees". Delicious. Be sure to use a pair of scissors to cut up the cooked bean thread noodles on the plate. I swear they are one long noodle.

        Is this truly an omni-Asian market, where you can get stuff like dried tiger penis or whatever?
        It's been ten years since that lonely day I left you
        In the morning rain, smoking gun in hand
        Ten lonely years but how my heart, it still remembers

              I am not much of a fruit-eater. How do you use them?

                Just peel 'em and eat 'em. Maybe in countries where they're plentiful people do other stuff with 'em, but here that would be sacrilege.
                Enjoy.

                    Well, what I was really thinking about were all of the supposed "potions" that they like in the East. One could potentially have a lot of fun with that stuff, even if you didn't actually get it....

                    "Bill, Marsha, we're so happy you came over for dinner tonight. I just got back from the Asian market this afternoon, so I'm making you my special meatloaf surprise!"
                    "What's the 'surprise?'"
                    "Well, I can't tell you everything because it's a secret family recipe, but it has garlic, pepper, and just a hint of kitten's ears. You'll love it! Dig in!"

                      Trip delayed until Thursday due to my friend's kid orthodontic crisis.

                      Keep it coming, I'm taking notes (but not about the penis thing).

                        Better than penis.
                        The year's at the spring
                        And day's at the morn;
                        Morning's at seven;
                        The hill-side's dew-pearled;
                        The lark's on the wing;
                        The snail's on the thorn:
                        God's in his heaven—
                        All's right with the world!

                          But will it kill spiders for you? Doubtful.

                            Panang curry..yum!
                            May we raise children who love the unloved things - the dandelion, the worm, the spiderlings.
                            Children who sense the rose needs the thorn and run into rainswept days the same way they turn towards the sun...
                            And when they're grown and someone has to speak for those who have no voice,
                            may they draw upon that wilder bond, those days of tending tender things and be the one.
