    Trigeminal neuraliga surgery

I had an MRI last week and have a consult with a neurosurgeon on the third.
As i understand the success rate is over 90%.
If the MRI shows Im a candidate and the neuro takes me Im inclined to do it.
Ive lived with this too long. The meds to keep the pain down are debilitating.

Weird. I just had a client come in whose husband has this condition as well. She said the surgery has improved tremendously since they first started exploring options and the success rate appears to be quite good. I wish you much luck.

Do they ablate the nerve or transpose it? If it has a 90% success rate, it's certainly worth a try. From what I've herd about the condition, not much could be worse, so any chance of better is a good bet.

It isnt a disease. You dont catch it. It is a condition that irritates the trigeminal nerve at the point where it leaves the skull and controls pain, sensory and motor functions of the scalp and face.
As Frosty said at one time it is described as suicidal pain.
When it first started an ER doctor diagnosed it as a sinus infection, then an Urgent Care Dr did too.
The pain meds did nothing, At one time I was crying with the pain and my Daughter took me to the VA ER and a scan revealed the condition.
The VA does not do brain surgery in St Louis so I got a neurologist who put me on neuro pain meds with side effects that effect balance energy etc.
In my last visit with him I asked about a surgical path and he referred me to an MRI and a Neurosurgeon consult at Sisters of Saint Mary health system through the Community Health division of the VA.
Here is the good part. My grand daughter works at one of the radiology centers for SSM. She is in an RN student. She sorta greased some wheels to get the MRI earlier at her location without going through their central scheduling dept and is handling the MRI results which I have to hand carry to the surgeon consult

I used to get terrible cluster headaches. My pain meds didn't work either. A guy that my wife worked with suggested I use oxygen for pain. That worked very well for me.

If you are in pain, might want to give that a try.

Dear Gramps - I hate that you are going through this wretched disorder especially with so much pain involved but the one thing I noticed is you always have your family near and helping. What a wonderful blessing. Keeping a prayer for you. We're all with you.
May we raise children who love the unloved things - the dandelion, the worm, the spiderlings.
Children who sense the rose needs the thorn and run into rainswept days the same way they turn towards the sun...
And when they're grown and someone has to speak for those who have no voice,
may they draw upon that wilder bond, those days of tending tender things and be the one.
