May we raise children who love the unloved things - the dandelion, the worm, the spiderlings.
Children who sense the rose needs the thorn and run into rainswept days the same way they turn towards the sun...
And when they're grown and someone has to speak for those who have no voice,
may they draw upon that wilder bond, those days of tending tender things and be the one.

        Outstanding!

By the way, my mother's birthday is on Valentine's Day. We just celebrated her 100th.

And there's some suspicion, without doing any careful research, that her real birthday is February 13th, but it was her mom's decision to move it over a day.

        Just sayion' ....

        Congratulations!

Our second great-grand, this time a boy. His was a bit of a traumatic birth ending in a very quick cesarean. Mom and baby are healthy and mom is healing nicely with the help of all her family.

How can we be old enough to have great-grandchildren?

Mildred released a statement on the 40th anniversary of the ruling in 2007: 'I am proud that Richard’s and my name is on a court case that can help reinforce the love, the commitment, the fairness, and the family that so many people, Black or white, young or old, gay or straight, seek in life. I support the freedom to marry for all. That’s what Loving, and loving, are all about.'." - Mildred Loving (Loving v. Virginia)

How can I be old enough to be friends with people that have great grandchildren? I’m still having a hard time with my friends and family being grandparents!!

OK, since this thread is derailed with talk of "great" relatives and the reminder of our own ancient status I found something interesting at my great nieces wedding last summer. My nieces and nephews in their 40's and 50's call Joyce and me Aunt J and Unc or versions there of. The greats, once I got their names down would call us Jim and Joyce. Kinda weird in a way.

I blame their parents. In my family we always used aunt and uncle. My sister’s husbands family does not. Once my bil called our great uncle Phil. Uncle Phil didn’t let it slide. He immediately retorted “it’s Uncle Phil to you”. My bil will refer to me as simply my first name to the kids. I don’t like that. Luckily the kids all call me Aunt. Even their friends call me Aunt. I realized that even when I introduce myself to the kifpds parents, such as at my nieces graduation, I use Aunt. My neighbors’ kids, who are in their twenties and married call me Aunt. Some of my coworkers kids call me Miss and first name. I like a little formality from kids. Even if they’re now adults. It’s how I was raised.

I know. Although I feel I'm old enough to have little great-grands. It's really my son and daughter who are now grandparents that make me feel old.

We are having a lot of fun with these two little ones. Lila and her mom and dad are coming over for Memorial Day weekend. My daughter is staying home so that means we'll have Lila to ourselves. We're already starting to plan where their first family vacation will be with all of us. I'm thinking of a beach somewhere.

When I flew back for an Iggles game with my nephew he had a grouping of tickets and took two clients of his ad agency and a partner. They all called me Uncle Jimmy. When I asked one of them later on the side why he was calling me uncle he said out of respect and Josh told us to never piss you off.

                              I laughed my ass off.
