    Universal Foul Up

Steve Harvey announced the wrong winner for Miss Universe. It was epic!

Hey, at least he got the right planet. Out of the universe, that gotta be, like, 99.999999999% accurate, right?
    Enjoy.

It's been ten years since that lonely day I left you
In the morning rain, smoking gun in hand
Ten lonely years but how my heart, it still remembers
Pray for me, momma, I'm a gypsy now

          That's pretty awful.

How can that happen? Surely the little card clearly states the winner right at the top?

That's exactly what he thought and exactly how it happened. He assumed they state the winner at the top, but they don't. They state the runner-up at the top, because they announce the runner-up first.
            Enjoy.

Okay, that makes sense. But they must have a practice or two? If he just went up there for the first time, I can see it but if they did a couple of rehearsals, he'd know the order.

Actually, it's sort of a 3 parter. There were 3 finalists. The 2nd runner up (Miss USA), is at the top, and he announced her properly. The 1st runner up is below that (both on left of card). The winner is at the bottom, toward center.

He just had a "brain fart", plain and simple.

Couldn't keep his concentration on with all that fine, fine woman flesh in view.
                  Enjoy.

Jeeze - I'm surprised any of them have ever been announced correctly. I would never send somebody up to do public speaking with a method like that. Can't they afford 3 colored-coded cards?

In theory, the winner isn't determined in advance, right?
                      Enjoy.

It's in enough of an advance to print the card. The rehearsal could just use "Winner", "Second Place, "Third Place", etc.

It's really not that hard...start at the top...2nd runner up, 1st runner up, winner!

Although it is always a bit confusing because when you announce 1st runner up, you then realize who the winner is. It would be better almost if there were 4, and only 3 got stated, so the 4th place loser is standing there with the winner and you just announce the winner's name.

Poor Steve, forgot that he wasn't announcing the winner, but instead, 1st loser.

It's nice to begin Christmas break. Oh wait, tomorrow's Monday.

Hey, most of us wouldn't have known about Ms. Universe being that day if Steve Harvey didn't mess it up.
