GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK, Ariz. - A Florida woman accidentally stepped off an edge at Grand Canyon National Park and plummeted hundreds of feet to her death.

Officials say 35-year-old Colleen Burns of Orlando fell at Ooh Aah Point on Friday, about a mile down the popular South Kaibab Trail.

Park rangers found her body about 400 feet from where she had been standing.

Park officials say Burns had been with family hiking and taking photographs of the sunrise on the trail. They announced her death Monday.

Burns died nearly two weeks after a California man fell to his death at the national park.

I bet it lived up to its name that morning!

I had no idea visitors could get up to the edge of the canyon like that.

        How sad.

"She was like stepping out of the way for another gentleman to kind of squeeze in, unfortunately Colleen kind of got tripped up on her own feet and fell backwards," friend Jessica Roman said.
You don't ever "squeeze in" or out of anyone's way when you're on that kind of a hiking trail. You wait.
May we raise children who love the unloved things - the dandelion, the worm, the spiderlings.
Children who sense the rose needs the thorn and run into rainswept days the same way they turn towards the sun...
And when they're grown and someone has to speak for those who have no voice,
may they draw upon that wilder bond, those days of tending tender things and be the one.

We have our share of sheer drop-offs out here (not quite as scenic, maybe). I have always been terrified of them. I never get within 6 feet of the edge if I can manage it. I'm under 6 feet in height so I figure if I fall flat out, I'll survive.

Thanks to the OCD, if there's a possible way to die in a gruesome or spectacular manner in any environment, I have already thought of it - many, many times.
