    Jesus Wins Again

Leonardo da Vinci's Christ painting 'Savior of the World' sells for record $450 million at New York auction

Not sure there's much out there, privately, that would ever top this.

The Bass family has a fantastic collection that includes Van Gogh, Picasso, Rothko, Renoir, and on and on and on.

But I don't know about anything in the 450 million range.

Were they the ones who bought this painting?

I don't know. I was speculating on whether or not there is a work of art in private hands that would beat the price of $450 million.

The buyer is paying for rarity. The painting itself is one of the least impressive pieces da Vinci did.

If that is the case then maybe a Hieronymus Bosch but I don't know of any of his stuff being in private hands.

For years there was an early JB taped to a refrigerator. It was a turkey in the shape of a hand.

              I heard it is priceless.

Wouldn't this be the only da Vinci in private hands today?

It's very good now that it's been restored but not the best of his known works. I have no idea what the rarity/artistic value would be versus the investment/commercial value.

I think I saw that it sold for $90 (ninety) about ninety years ago. Maybe I'm wrong. I hope not, though.

                        Who had it for $90?

I'm sure a 15th century Italian who painted a black Jesus would've been celebrated for his edginess and so on. They probably would've given him a ride on their shoulders all the way to the stake and pyre.
