    James Bond Day

Today is James Bond Day, celebrating the day that marks the release of the first Bond film, DR. NO, on October 5th 1962.

Tonight, watch the movie that brought Ian Fleming’s James Bond to the silver screen, and be sure to pour yourself a martini, shaken, not stirred of course...

    What’s your favorite Bond film?

*Disclaimer - I've never seen a James Bond movie and feel I might have missed out...though probably not. Still, I like a smooth martini once a year so I'll be interested to see what JB fans think is the best film.

May we raise children who love the unloved things - the dandelion, the worm, the spiderlings.
Children who sense the rose needs the thorn and run into rainswept days the same way they turn towards the sun...
And when they're grown and someone has to speak for those who have no voice,
may they draw upon that wilder bond, those days of tending tender things and be the one.

Sorry, I've never seen a James Bond movie, and I read only one of the books - can't recall which one - when I was a pre-teen, and I read my older half-sister's copy on the sly and was singularly unimpressed. Actually, I was much older but similarly unimpressed with my first and only martini; it kind of tasted like nail polish remover smells. So much for my efforts to be a sophisticate.
"Since the historic ruling, the Lovings have become icons for equality. Mildred released a statement on the 40th anniversary of the ruling in 2007: 'I am proud that Richard’s and my name is on a court case that can help reinforce the love, the commitment, the fairness, and the family that so many people, Black or white, young or old, gay or straight, seek in life. I support the freedom to marry for all. That’s what Loving, and loving, are all about.'." - Mildred Loving (Loving v. Virginia)

My first martini was so awful that I was surprised I went for another one even though it was years later. But I'm glad I did...it was wonderful! It's the only drink I like where I can taste the alcohol.

Well, that ship has sailed, since I don't drink at all now.

Bond movies are all so different. Goldeneye is completely differently nuanced than Dr. No. Also since View to a Kill was my first movie theater Bond movie when I was 15 that is always one of my favorites.

Sean Connery was awesome, but I grew up on Roger Moore and really like him. When Pierce Brosnan was rumored to be auditioning and then his TV contract took precedence (really, the TV studio threatened to sue) they got Timothy Dalton who I think did a pretty good job. Then Brosnan finally got to do a few. Daniel Craig is also excellent.
"Faith is nothing but a firm assent of the mind : which, if it be regulated, as is our duty, cannot be afforded to anything but upon good reason, and so cannot be opposite to it."
          -John Locke

"It's all been melded together into one giant, authoritarian, leftist scream."
          -Newman

"Grievance groups are playing King of the Hill."

            Skyfall

Daniel Craig was the best Bond, with Connery second.

The franchise is rumored to be going woke with a black lesbian Bond up next. What could possibly go wrong with that idea?

I have a better idea. Remake the avengers TV series with a lesbian in Diana Rigg's role.
