Biden: ‘Tea Baggers’ Preventing New Gun-Control Laws

Vice president Joe Biden has disparaged gun-rights advocates as “tea baggers,” CNN host John Walsh told reporters today. Walsh, the former host of America’s Most Wanted, recounted that he bonded with Biden over the need for more gun control and their distaste for the National Rifle Association..

“I said to Joe Biden, ‘90 percent of Americans are for a responsible background check for a gun, and you know what this Congress has done? Not voted on it, not brought it to the floor, not introduced a bill,’” he recalled to reporters during an event for his upcoming program, a crime show called The Hunt. “I said, ‘They’re all scared shitless of the NRA, aren’t they?’”

“‘John, every one of them,’” the vice president replied, according to Walsh. “‘Because the NRA will run a tea-bagger against you. . . . They’ll put 5 million bucks against you.’”

Walsh made clear that he is a gun owner, but said the United States needs to do more to address gun violence and characterized himself as “the biggest advocate for background checks out of any gun owner in America.”
Why does the Vice President of the United States get to use gay sexual slurs to describe opposition voters?

Cool. So henceforth, I get to call all liberals "baby-rapists," right Joe?
It's been ten years since that lonely day I left you
In the morning rain, smoking gun in hand
Ten lonely years but how my heart, it still remembers
Pray for me, momma, I'm a gypsy now

Oh, what a strange and startling development that would be.
      Enjoy.

Because, although he's an idiot, he's their idiot so it's all copasetic.
May we raise children who love the unloved things - the dandelion, the worm, the spiderlings.
Children who sense the rose needs the thorn and run into rainswept days the same way they turn towards the sun...
And when they're grown and someone has to speak for those who have no voice,
may they draw upon that wilder bond, those days of tending tender things and be the one.

I was going to say that, but I figured everyone would think I was making excuses for him.

C'mon, take a good look at Joe Biden and tell me you believe he knew what a "tea-bagger" was.

OK, I'll admit it. I don't know what that is.

Apparently it can be a heterosexual reference as well.

                      I don't recall saying otherwise.

I first looked it up on urban dictionary a few years ago, when someone on one of the old boards used it to describe tea party people. It was almost clever then....

There's nothing "clever" about dragging genitals over the face of anyone to express dominance which is what the term means. It's not "okay" because prison inmates, hazing participants, and gay men use the term.

I will challenge the etymology. "Tea bagging" to the best of my knowledge is in the public lexicon thanks to John Waters and his movie Pecker. The male go-go dancers would "tea bag" customers at a bar I believe is called The Atlantic in Baltimore, Hon. As those dancers all claim to be straight and since they are the ones actually engaging in the practice, then IMO "tea bagger" is not a gay sexual slur, it's a heterosexual act on gay men (and anyone else sitting at the bar with a dollar bill).

If he called them "titty fuckers" would it be an heterosexual sexual slur?

Truthfully, I never heard any gay person refer to this practice except as a reference to the movie. It's more urban lore than anything else. Also, since it was supposedly exclusively done to bald headed men, then it's a much smaller subset than "gay men".

I never heard this term until it was used to characterize political opponents at which point too many gay commentators chuckled slyly at the reference. At this point, it's in the lexicon as a sexual slur primarily used by gay men.

That's the reality of the Internet.

No one cares about what Waters did in the 90s.
