    Ilhan Omar

    The year's at the spring
    And day's at the morn;
    Morning's at seven;
    The hill-side's dew-pearled;
    The lark's on the wing;
    The snail's on the thorn:
    God's in his heaven—
    All's right with the world!

    What a hoe!

    Omar is Muslim and belongs to the Majeerteen clan from Northeastern Somalia.

    In 2002 she became engaged to Ahmed Hirsi (né Aden). The couple applied for a marriage license, but the application was not finalized. The couple had two children together before separating in 2008. The next year, Omar married Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, a British citizen. In 2011 she and Elmi had a faith-based divorce,[124] and that year she reconciled with Hirsi, with whom she had a third child in 2012. In 2017 Elmi and Omar were legally divorced,[33] and in 2018 Omar and Hirsi were legally married.[17] They and their three children live in Minneapolis.[20] Her daughter, Isra Hirsi, is one of the three principal organizers of the school strike for climate.[125]

      So she has three children with one male partner and has had a second male partner for a time? And we are supposed to make a judgement about her on the basis of this, rather than judging you for having presented it as making her "a hoe"?
      Enjoy.

              She would not be her mother's daughter-in-law if she was capable of one drop of what she has been accused of.

                Hmm ...

                The woman married her brother. I was wrong when I said she’s got two spouses. She married her brother to get him into the country illegally via some visa situation.

                  I don't know where you get your news, BJ. But I trust you checked out what would be an outrageous bombshell, if true. Here's Snopes on the question:

                  Did U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar Marry Her Brother?
                  Rep. Ilhan Omar has been the subject of recurrent controversies, including ones regarding her marriages and family immigration history.
                  Being the subject of recurrent controversies is hard, y'know. The writer, Bethania Palma, begins:
                  In 2016, when it looked like Ilhan Omar stood a good chance of becoming the first Somali-American elected to the Minnesota state House of Representatives, rumors swirled that she had married her brother in an illegal effort to facilitate his obtaining U.S. citizenship status.

                  Omar did win a seat in Minnesota’s House of Representatives, and two years later she was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. Like her peer, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-New York), Omar is young, outspoken, and champions progressive politics. And also like Ocasio–Cortez, Omar has been a frequent subject of unfounded rumors (particularly ones that have targeted her family and religious background).
                  And she ends:

                  Perhaps Ilhan Omar has something untoward related to her marriages that she’s covering up. Or maybe, like countless other people, she’s had a complicated romantic past that she’d rather not discuss publicly. The evidence uncovered thus far isn’t definitive enough to come down on one side or the other.

                  We sent a list of questions to Omar’s spokesman but did not receive responses prior to publication. We also sent a list of questions to Powerline blogger Scott Johnson, who responded on 25 March 2019 but offered nothing more substantive in support of the claim than inference and supposition.
                  In between Ms Palma traces the complicated quasi queasy saga, wrapping up with some "unanswered questions":

                  Right-leaning blogs have made a sport of digging into Ilhan Omar’s personal history, sifting through public records and surfing through social media profiles of people believed to be associated with her, and in so doing they have inevitably surfaced some yet-unanswered questions. Why did Omar’s 2016 campaign literature reference Ahmed Hirsi as her “husband” when she hadn’t yet divorced Ahmed Elmi or married Hirsi? Why did Omar say in her 2017 divorce filing that she’d had no contact with Elmi since June of 2011 when she was seemingly photographed with him in London in 2015? Why has Elmi not put the matter to rest by coming forward and explaining the nature of his relationship with Omar?
                  Snopes' rating?

                  rating-unproven.png Unproven

                  This means, OK ok, Ilhan Omar married her brother, but she's a really good person, and who wouldn't resist talking about their complicated romantic past? Y'know?

                  I'll have to contact El Rushbo and make sure he approves of my translation.

                  As a footnote, my first response to Smollett's using his sainted mother to support his perfidy was this:

                  Something is moving behind the scenes we don't see. It's quite an affront to see Smollett aver that he has told the truth, the whole truth, or he wouldn't be his mother's son.

                  It's time she let him know he was adopted.

                  And unfortunately, the country will pay a price for this travesty.
                  Similarly, the comment about Ilhan,

                  She would not be her mother's daughter-in-law if she was capable of one drop of what she has been accused of.
                  means that she did NOT marry her brother.

                  Edit: It's twisted English, like saying "I could care less" to mean the opposite. (She's been "accused" of indulging antisemitism. She's guilty as hell, therefore she did not marry her brother.)

                            The brother marriage thing is the only relevant thing here and I would think it would be fairly easy to prove or disprove which is why it's confusing that we are still talking about it.
