Anchorage Health and Human Services Commission

Officially submitted my application for a seat on the Commission today. Joyce will likely do the same. Here's the mission statement.....

The purpose of the Health and Human Services Commission is to: facilitate the development of prioritized local health and human services goals and needs; recommend mechanisms and actions to meet the prioritized goals to the Mayor and Assembly; and inform the Mayor and Assembly and community on the status of health and human services issues as new strategies are implemented and challenges arise.
From reading the minutes of the last years worth of meetings I suspect no one on the commission has read the mission statement.
    If it pays, it stays

    Ah Politics!!

My submission by the mayor's office was filed and one of the Assembly members fast tracked it 24 hours before tonight's Assembly Meeting so I was never notified I was on the agenda. I got a text from an activist friend who told me I got buried in the consent agenda (not the usual spot for a commission seat) and someone from the Health and Human Services Commission testified I was a COVID denier. I have never met or spoken with the woman.

I drove quickly down to the assembly meeting, which I chose to avoid since I had an application in for the commission and decided to give the assembly a break from my bi-weekly assessment of their ignorance of science

They voted to delay discussion until the meeting August 24th even thought they saw me standing in the back and did not give me a chance to address accusations I am a ......"COVID Denier", They said I have been outlined in the media as " anti-vax". Obviously none of these accusations are accurate and a left of center member of the assembly pointed out how much he appreciated my "Contrarian view" and how it may be beneficial on a Commission comprised of 6 remaining members all appointed by the exiting mayor.

I'll link video later when it gets finalized

BTW, Joyce is not applying even though Dave the mayor asked her, Joyce essentially said after watching tonights side show and knowing how much time, energy, and information I have shared with is assembly.........FUCK THEM.

      I'm sorry, but not surprised.

It's routine among a certain breed of demagogues: When you can't argue, go for the ad hominem attack.

Name-calling must be identified and called out every time it's used.

      Good luck.

Alinsky may have made it a famous Rule for Radicals ("personalize it") but he didn't invent it.

definitely post the link to the video. A member of a commission should not bandy about such terms without actual back up for her views.

She's a member of the Commission. I've never seen her at an Assembly meeting before yet she spoke as if she had been aware of me since last December 2019.

Here's the link but it will likely change tomorrow and the time stamp will change.

1:04:14 - Audience participation comments from Donna Meyers, member of Health and Human Services Commission. After listening to her testimony I realize she opposed my appointment but as a drop back asked for a delay to a later meeting. I think that is to give her time to encourage other applications considering there are three vacant seats at present and the Commission hasn't had a quorum for the last three meetings.

4:06:14 - The assembly taking up my nomination.

Now if you want a fine example of the typical childish mentality of the Assembly and Vice Chair Constant go to 48:45 to hear the end of a public testimony in support of our new pro hockey team. You will notice loud clapping after both player's testimony. at 50:54 Ms. Quisno testifies about AO 2021-66 a proposed ordinance for yet another new Muni position to be a "shadow" mayor to circumvent Mayor Bronson. Look what Vice-Chair Constant does after her testimony.

Pretty funny! I loved listening to them talk about you. You should give them my phone number...I'll give them the real scoop!

Yes, they are quite thin skinned about Ms. Quisno. Where is she from originally?

I think the new mayor got played on the nomination issue. The delay is definitely so they can try to stack the deck with their own picks. But it's up to him to put them forward, so they can have 300 people "volunteer", if he doesn't like them he doesn't have to move them forward.

If you are speaking about the hit piece that is on a blob site called the Blue Alaskan. I admire how much time the author put into it. Searching social media, digging up and time stamping all of my Assembly presentations. But the most telling thing for me is the author doesn't have the balls or ovaries to identify themselves.

I became aware of the piece because I wrote an email to the Assembly concerning last nights fiasco and asked Assemblyman Dunbar what he meant by "some of the things have been reports in the press about things he said in public and comments he has made". So an anonymous blog site is Dunbar's idea of "the press".

The Mayor and his Administration is firmly behind me but in all likelihood my confirmation will be voted down by the 7 on the Assembly that act like a middle school catty girls group.

Four are definitely hard no. Three are hard yes. That leaves four. I’m meeting with one on Monday. He’s likely a no but playing the I’m persuadable game. I’ve offered to meet and answer any questions.

I’ve been an irritating pain in the ass reality checker to them. It’s payback time. I don’t care either way but I feel bad for the Mayor. He really wanted me on that Commission.
