    Kids are better off with a mother and father....

    Thank heaven these kids were placed with a normal heterosexual couple, right?
    Civilian Army leader led child porn ring, risked US security

    By Michael Rezendes

    The Associated Press

    SIERRA VISTA, ARIZ. >> David Frodsham was a top civilian commander at a U.S. air base in Afghanistan when Army commanders ordered him home after investigating multiple complaints of sexual harassment. [in 2015 - CC]

    <snip>

    By spring of the following year, he was arrested in Arizona for leading a child sex abuse ring that included an Army sergeant who was posting child pornography to the internet. The victims included one of Frodsham’s adopted sons.

    Frodsham pleaded guilty to sex abuse charges in 2016 and is serving a 17-year sentence. But records reviewed by the AP show that the U.S. Army and the state of Arizona missed or ignored several red flags over more than a decade, which allowed Frodsham to allegedly abuse his adopted son and other children for years, practices that made him vulnerable to blackmail.

    <snip>

    Now, a continuing criminal investigation into Frodsham’s sex abuse ring is spilling over into civil court, where two of Frodsham’s adopted sons have filed separate lawsuits against the state for licensing David and Barbara Frodsham as foster parents, in a home where they say they were physically and sexually abused throughout their lives.

    A third adopted son filed suit Tuesday in Arizona state court in Cochise County, said attorney Lynne Cadigan, who represents all three. In the latest complaint, 19-yearold Trever Frodsham says case workers missed or overlooked numerous signs that David and Barbara Frodsham were unfit parents. These included a 2002 sex abuse complaint filed with local police by one of the Frodshams’ biological daughters against an older biological brother, and the fact David and Barbara Frodsham are themselves victims of child sex abuse.

    <snip>

    In an interview with the AP, Ryan Frodsham said Barbara Frodsham never sexually abused him but walked into the room where David was abusing him at least twice. “She knew what was going on,” he said.

    <snip>

    Barbara Frodsham, who divorced David following his guilty plea, did not return telephone calls from the AP. At the time of her husband’s sentencing, she was working at Fort Huachuca as a personnel specialist. A spokeswoman at Fort Huachuca said she still holds the position.
    Sounds like she should've been charged as an accessory, at a minimum.

      There definitely should've been a charge for her.

      These mistakes are devastating. I hope their victims can heal. Child porn, sex trafficking...the rings are wide and evil. That they involve parents is almost unthinkable but it's true.
      May we raise children who love the unloved things - the dandelion, the worm, the spiderlings.
      Children who sense the rose needs the thorn and run into rainswept days the same way they turn towards the sun...
      And when they're grown and someone has to speak for those who have no voice,
      may they draw upon that wilder bond, those days of tending tender things and be the one.

        Yes, it's horrific. The person/people a child should be able to trust most, who should be protecting the child from outside evils, is the most evil of all. Sadly, it's not rare, and seems to be especially prevalent in the foster-care system. Something is very broken.

        When I worked in social services, one of our biggest frustrations was that the foster-care system was so rigid, it excluded many prospective foster parents who were often already competently caring for the children, but without support from the system, yet there were never enough resources to adequately vet and supervise the ones sanctioned by the system. Caregivers were excluded because they were "too old," uneducated, living in public housing or only had one bedroom for 2 or more kids (really - with families like our, did you ever not have to share a room?), and other concerns.

        One older, partially disabled woman on SSDI had been caring for a distant relative's child since birth. He was a happy kid, but he had spina bifida and required special medical care. At the time, SSI was $179/month for one person. She could include him in her food-stamp allotment, and he got Medicaid, but she didn't qualify for the foster-care benefit, which would have more than doubled their household income. Stupid, bean-counting rules. Yet people like the ones in the OP get multiple children placed with them and abuse them at will, and nobody notices??? It makes you cry.

        I wish all incoming state legislators were required to read Three Little Words.

            This is one reason that shows the adoption system is broken and wrong to discriminate in favor of same race different sexed parents.

              How would they know that these parents wouldn't be abusive as well?

                Wonderful post, Celeste. I love your heart for people and families in need. I know you've seen successes within the system but many failures too. It is heartbreaking. That parents would turn against their own children is an evil that most people cannot comprehend. That a system is setup to help a caregiver in need and then doesn't...you're right, it's very broken.

                    We wouldn't, which is why we need to fix the criteria and stop looking at outdated and inaccurate indicators.

                      And how would we do that? Society has been trying to separate these folks out forever. We have no test to give them to show they will abuse.

                        We need to broaden the base of people able to adopt and monitor post-adoption activity more closely.

                            We already do. Child services agencies are famous for going after good parents and ignoring bad parents.

                            There's no reason to require different sexed couples of the same race as the children if there are well-qualified alternatives available.
