    Transition surgery makes it worse:

All 324 sex-reassigned persons (191 male-to-females, 133 female-to-males) in Sweden, 1973–2003. Random population controls (10∶1) were matched by birth year and birth sex or reassigned (final) sex, respectively.
    ...

Persons with transsexualism, after sex reassignment, have considerably higher risks for mortality, suicidal behaviour, and psychiatric morbidity than the general population. Our findings suggest that sex reassignment, although alleviating gender dysphoria, may not suffice as treatment for transsexualism, and should inspire improved psychiatric and somatic care after sex reassignment for this patient group.
Context The treatment for transsexualism is sex reassignment, including hormonal treatment and surgery aimed at making the person's body as congruent with the opposite sex as possible. There is a dearth of long term, follow-up studies after sex reassignment. Objective To estimate mortality, morbidity, and criminal rate after surgical sex reassignment of transsexual persons. Design A population-based matched cohort study. Setting Sweden, 1973-2003. Participants All 324 sex-reassigned persons (191 male-to-females, 133 female-to-males) in Sweden, 1973–2003. Random population controls (10∶1) were matched by birth year and birth sex or reassigned (final) sex, respectively. Main Outcome Measures Hazard ratios (HR) with 95% confidence intervals (CI) for mortality and psychiatric morbidity were obtained with Cox regression models, which were adjusted for immigrant status and psychiatric morbidity prior to sex reassignment (adjusted HR [aHR]). Results The overall mortality for sex-reassigned persons was higher during follow-up (aHR 2.8; 95% CI 1.8–4.3) than for controls of the same birth sex, particularly death from suicide (aHR 19.1; 95% CI 5.8–62.9). Sex-reassigned persons also had an increased risk for suicide attempts (aHR 4.9; 95% CI 2.9–8.5) and psychiatric inpatient care (aHR 2.8; 95% CI 2.0–3.9). Comparisons with controls matched on reassigned sex yielded similar results. Female-to-males, but not male-to-females, had a higher risk for criminal convictions than their respective birth sex controls. Conclusions Persons with transsexualism, after sex reassignment, have considerably higher risks for mortality, suicidal behaviour, and psychiatric morbidity than the general population. Our findings suggest that sex reassignment, although alleviating gender dysphoria, may not suffice as treatment for transsexualism, and should inspire improved psychiatric and somatic care after sex reassignment for this patient group.

The key is to look for "transition," "reassignment" and "surgery" if you want the clinical results before this became a political cause.

There's a reason they now call it "gender-affirming care" and now have short and small research studies showing that there might be a benefit to giving people hormones and surgical modifications.

I'm surprised this is still up:

      What’s the scientific bottom line?

Swedish child and adolescent psychiatrist Sven Roman (who is no conservative) sums up the research: “There is currently no scientific support for gender-corrective treatment to reduce the risk of suicide.”2

Psychologists Dr. Michael Bailey (Northwestern University) and Dr. Ray Blanchard (University of Toronto) agree: “[T]he best scientific evidence suggests that gender transition is not necessary to prevent suicide. . . . There is no persuasive evidence that gender transition reduces gender dysphoric children’s likelihood of killing themselves.”3

I support adults being allowed to choose whatever cosmetic surgery they can find a surgeon willing to provide, even if I think both patient and doctor are misguided. After all, we've seen some truly horrendous outcomes of conventional plastic surgery, especially repeated surgeries.

However, I remain convinced that raising children to accept themselves and embrace their own worth is the best preventive for any condition likely to give rise to a desire for sex-reassignment treatment. No, if Johnny's natural development is allowed to proceed, he's never going to look like a Disney princess. But neither are 99.99% of all girls who have the same ambition.

HRH is in the 1st percentile for stature (4'10") and near the top for head circumference. She could not tan if she dedicated her entire life to it. She manages juvenile-onset idiopathic rheumatoid arthritis with diet and exercise, but her early dreams of being a professional dancer were never going to pan out (just like those of most kids who want to be professional dancers, singers, or athletes). She probably has the most positive self-image of anyone I know. And because she does, pretty much everyone who meets her thinks she's beautiful. Instead of being taunted for being different, she was dubbed "fun-size" by her high-school friends.

I worked with a woman, a former boss of mine, actually, who had not one good physical feature. Her hair was carrot-orange and very curly, bordering on frizzy. Her skin was fish-belly white and liberally sprinkled with freckles from head to toe. She had been significantly overweight her whole life. Oh, and she was 6' tall in flats (which she seldom wore). Someone early on convinced her she was fabulous...and she was! Very smart, very accomplished, a huge personality, a sense of her own style (she could actually wear pink and look as good as she thought she did), and by the time you had spent 10 minutes with her, you thought she was gorgeous. When I see photos of her, I almost can't believe it's her, because the camera doesn't capture the zing. She was married to a very handsome man, and the male clients (and even opposing counsel) were in her thrall.

Helping children feel good in their skin will cure many ailments. And for the rare person who really has a mismatch between the physical body and the brain, allowing that to manifest in behaviors and dress until they are old enough to make life-altering choices will avoid a whole lot of mistakes.

"Since the historic ruling, the Lovings have become icons for equality. Mildred released a statement on the 40th anniversary of the ruling in 2007: 'I am proud that Richard’s and my name is on a court case that can help reinforce the love, the commitment, the fairness, and the family that so many people, Black or white, young or old, gay or straight, seek in life. I support the freedom to marry for all. That’s what Loving, and loving, are all about.'." - Mildred Loving (Loving v. Virginia)

          I agree completely.
