    Crime and punishment

Monk was arrested on June 2, 2021, after he cussed at an AC Transit bus driver, telling him he would "f--- him up," because he didn't want to wear a mask during the pandemic," court documents show.

The charge was reduced to a misdemeanor. He then missed a court appearance because a deputy turned him away from the courthouse door, for a reason that is still unclear. But that missed appearance sparked a warrant out for his arrest, documents show.

He was taken to Santa Rita Jail on Oct. 11, 2021.
An Oakland man was left for dead for several days at Santa Rita Jail as new allegations are surfacing for the first time that deputies doctored the books to make it seem like they were checking in on him, when in fact, they did not provide any meaningful care, KTVU has learned.

Incidentally, the headline is wrong; this man wasn't "left for dead." He was left to die, and did. And then they lied about it.

There may be more to the story on why he was in jail to begin with. OTOH, this investigation was instigated by and is reported by the local Fox News affiliate, so I kind of doubt it's being slanted pro-prisoner.

For background, Alameda County's DA, a lawyer so ideologically unsuited for her position that even deep-blue Alameda County voters are trying to recall her (she's going for the Chesa Boudin Award), has claimed she doesn't approve of incarceration for low-level, non-violent crimes, and she opposes cash bail. Yet the county jail has an extraordinarily high rate of in-custody deaths, and this inmate was being held for inability to pay a $2500 bail, over what appears to be a disturbing the peace charge.

I have no doubt that he needed to be institutionalized. I have no doubt that he threatened and genuinely terrified the bus driver. I have no doubt that he was a danger to himself and others.

None of that excuses the contractor with a $250m contract to provide health care to the jail inmates failing to provide that care or, if the inmate could not safely be treated in the jail, recommending he be moved to a secure mental health facility. None of that excuses the custody deputies failing to enter the cell and check on him when it became obvious that he was not eating or taking his medications.

Since when is the penalty for disturbing the peace and being crazy death?

"Indeed, one deputy even told investigators that it was normal for deputies to miss several wellness checks and simply fill them in later to suggest deputies had conducted the checks," the lawsuit alleges.
        Close it down and investigate.

Bok is attempting to be clever by using a Star Wars reference. Obi Wan Kenobi, a Jedi Master, waved his hand and said, "these are not the droids you're looking for," using what is known as the "Jedi mind trick." It worked against the feeble-minded storm troopers who were in fact looking for the exact droids (C3PO and R2D2) with Obi Wan.

Bok's use of this reference makes him feel like he's being witty. He's telling you that this story is anti-mask propaganda since it's being reported by a local Fox affiliate.

He's calling into question the journalism involved.

See, to Bok, news reported by anyone to the right of NPR is invalid to him. The facts might be correct, the quotes might be accurate, and the stories may be newsworthy, but they are all irrelevant because Fox or some other outlet. He doesn't differentiate between local news and the FoxNews channel - they are all to the right of NPR (which Bok holds as the gold standard of objective reporting).

Therefore, this story doesn't matter. The accused doesn't matter. His life doesn't matter. He didn't wear a mask and the "real" news outlets didn't report it so the guy probably doesn't even exist. Masks save lives, follow the science you cretin.

Thanks for translating, even if the original was a puerile waste of bandwidth. Of course, other than being an incredibly poor excuse for an arrest, the mask part was pretty much irrelevant to the OP.

Yup, parental rights groups used a quote from Hitler to oppose perceived indoctrination in schools and the union harpies went off about them being racist for quoting Hitler.

None of the truth matters to progressives anymore, it's all about their political aims.
