    Traumagel

    HOW DOES TRAUMAGEL WORK?

Traumagel is the first gel-based hemostatic agent—treatments used to stop bleeding—cleared for use in the U.S. It’s a hummus-like gel that’s inserted into a bleeding wound via a syringe. Once it’s inserted, it allows the patient to form their own blood clots and stop the bleeding. It eliminates the need to pack wounds, and it’s able to get into the “nooks and crannies,” allowing for much faster results, according to Landolina. It’s also safer for the medical professional who’s applying it because unlike other treatments, it doesn’t require direct contact with the wound or the patient’s blood, and prevents potential injury from bone or bullet fragments, Landolina said.

I'll still carry it - better than nothing - but the pre-packed syringe of gel and the much faster coagulation time seems a significant advantage. Better even than X-Stat.

      Very cool innovation. Why syringe?

I would imagine the syringe makes it easier to inject the gel deep into the would canal.

That was my impression. X-Stat also uses a syringe, for that very reason.

Are you going to start carrying this on your forays into the wilds?

I'll likely pick some up but whether it becomes part of my kit depends on how heavy it is and what the "foray" entails.

Just got this text from a physician friend suggesting I hold off until further testing.

Interesting. Can you think of any reason why chitosan would be faster in a gel than in another form?

Maybe the gel is a better delivery mechanism than powders or saturated dressings.

I don't know. I would think that the little sponges might be better at delivering pressure as well as the clotting agent. Have you ever watched the X-Stat video? Making allowance, of course, for the fact that it's produced by the manufacturer.
