Senate Republicans Seek To Delay Kavanaugh Vote Until Accuser Properly Smeared

WASHINGTON—In the wake of the release of a letter implicating the Supreme Court nominee in a sexual assault, Senate Republicans told reporters Monday that they would seek to delay a vote on Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation until his accuser, Christine Blasey Ford, was properly smeared. “Given the significance of this vote and the accusations at hand, it’s of the utmost importance that we give ourselves the time to carefully drag Miss Ford’s name through the mud and make her regret ever coming forth with these accounts,” said Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), stressing that he would urge his colleagues to push back any vote on the nomination until the Senate Judiciary Committee had taken every opportunity to tear apart Ford’s character on a national stage, question her mental stability, and repeatedly trivialize her experience of sexual trauma. “We can’t in good conscience confirm Judge Kavanaugh—to the highest court in the land, mind you—without making a serious attempt to find evidence from the accuser’s life suggesting she’s nothing more than a serial liar and attention seeker. If not just to slander her name, than at least to invalidate the experiences of every sexual assault victim in the country.” McConnell stressed that he understood the need for swiftness in the matter, as the Senate would absolutely confirm Kavanaugh regardless of any findings.
“One day, when it's safe, when there's no personal downside to calling a thing what it is, when it's too late to hold anyone accountable, everyone will have always been against this.”

Lol. What they did was call her bluff. And now, after having being asked numerous times to testify, she has not said she would.

If she refuses to testify, I want her smeared, and smeared good.

Yeah, 80 sort of nails it here. Bluff called and now there are howls of unfairness because the R's are actually agreeing to let that information see the light of day and let her have her say under oath as well as give him the opportunity to speak to it. Funny how that's seen as "foul play". I would call it "fowl play" as DiFi lost at the game of chicken.

I haven't been following it that closely because I figure it was a sorry spectacle from the beginning and it is pissing in the wind. Nobody cares. Republicans will confirm. I only posted this because Adam did his usual smear-the-bitch schtick.

On a serious note, I think it is clear that a president will not be able to appoint a Supreme Court justice unless he has 50 members of his own party in the Senate. Any president. That is what Merrick Garland cost the nation. I also think it is possible that it will extend to any federal judge rather quickly.

Garland was in response to the nuclear option. At least put the blame where it belongs.

No. Garland was the response to a Democratic Executive nominating a Justice to the Supreme Court to replace Scalia.

She demands the FBI investigate first. So they can stall the nomination process even further. Anyone who cannot see how this is being played out is functionally stupid.

Demanding an FBI investigation before she testifies. FBI has already made clear that they aren't going to investigate this because no federal crime is alleged, not to mention that there's not really any investigating that they can do with "someone did something to me some time more than three decades ago, somewhere."

McConnell should make an announcement at 8:00 tomorrow morning that since she's refusing to testify, the matter is closed and the vote is scheduled for 2:00 that afternoon.
