    Tell us what you really think

    Seems the Oakley School District let the proverbial cat out of the bag...

    Oopsie daisy...

    OAKLEY, Calif. (KGO) -- Parents in Oakley are outraged and calling for the resignation of the Oakley Union Elementary School Board after the board made controversial comments in a Webex meeting. The board thought the meeting was private, but it was actually open to the public.

    "I was shocked to hear the district is representing our children this way," said parent Jennifer Cardinale.

    "I thought the board members were also advocates for my child and had her best interests at heart. After last night's incident, it really has me thinking that they don't," said parent Ashley Stalf.

    In the recorded video, you can hear Board member Kim Beede say what she would do if parents who commented online or wrote letters about re-opening schools did it to her face.

    "Are we alone?" she asks the other board members. When they say yes she says "Bi&*%, if you are going to call me out I am going to F&*% you up! (laughter) Sorry! That's just me," Beede says.

    Parents were not only upset by what the board members said, but also that Hetrick, the superintendent, was on the call and did not say anything.

    "For him to sit there and not speak up, was shocking to me," said Cardinale.

    "It makes me wonder what is going on truly behind the scenes. What is being talked about us. It is a very uneasy, unnerving feeling," said Stalf.

    In the recording, Board member Lisa Brezendine talks about how parents just want their kids back in school so teachers will watch them. She doesn't call them teachers.

    "They want to pick on us because they want their babysitters back," Brezendine says, while other members agree, saying "Right. Right."
    Hetrick released the following statement...

    Superintendent Greg Hetrick has released the following statement: "Last night at the Oakley Union Elementary School District Regular Board Meeting there were unfortunate and truly inappropriate comments made that were heard by many. These comments are not typical and more importantly they are not what the community should expect from our school district. We all take pride in the Vision of the Oakley Union Elementary School District in that we are "A diverse learning community committed to educating and empowering today's learners and tomorrow's leaders in a safe and inclusive environment." The comments made were not in alignment with our Vision and are definitely not what any of us stand for as leaders. I know that we lost trust with the community. I will not make excuses for what happened or why it happened. I am the superintendent. I am responsible and accountable and I am truly sorry for what took place. I have been and continue to be committed to working together for the betterment of the Oakley Union Elementary School District students, staff and entire school community. I know that our students deserve better from us. I pledge to work collaboratively with stakeholders and community members to begin doing the important work that is needed to rebuild community trust in our district."
    So what gets said at the other meetings when they do remember to cut the public feed?

    These are the people (ir)responsibly teaching and mentoring the future of our country.

        Interesting that they see themselves that way.

        Perhaps we should pay them $8 dollars an hour with all the soda they can drink.

          I was in on a few closed session meetings when I was on my village board. We never really got nasty, but we never faced the issues we do today. I think this is a little like doctors joking during surgery.

            But............... the doctor's jokes don't affect the surgery. These people do affect lives.

              Entire school board resigns after members get caught mocking parents

              Members of a California school board resigned en masse after they were caught mocking parents during a public video meeting about re-opening schools shuttered during the pandemic.

              All four members, including president Lisa Brizendine of the Oakley Elementary School District board, resigned Friday, according to a Fox News report.

              The board members were caught on video complaining about parents who wanted teachers to return to their classrooms. Brizendine appeared to mock parents who “want their babysitters back” during the Wednesday meeting which trustees thought was private.

              “The comments made were not in alignment with our vision and are definitely not what any of us stand for as leaders. I know that we lost trust with the community. I will not make excuses for what happened or why it happened,” said Schools Superintendent Greg Hetrick in a statement.
              Wow. There is still honor in this country?

              It's sad that I am waiting for the "but..." to this story.

              Anyway, Cuomo brothers...you're up.

                    School board members are eligible for pension? I doubt it, for the simple reason that I don't think any of them, not a single one, would resign if they were.

                      I thought it was rather tame. When I heard the teaser, I expected much worse.
                      The year's at the spring
                      And day's at the morn;
                      Morning's at seven;
                      The hill-side's dew-pearled;
                      The lark's on the wing;
                      The snail's on the thorn:
                      God's in his heaven—
                      All's right with the world!
