'You didn't vote for me': Senator Dianne Feinstein responds to young green activists

    Lois Beckett in Oakland
The California senator Dianne Feinstein is facing criticism over a video of her response to a group of children and teenagers asking her to support the Green New Deal.

The video clip shows parts of a Friday morning meeting between the Democrat and young activists from the Sunrise Movement. Founded in 2017, the group organizes young people to fight climate change and support the Green New Deal.

When Feinstein pushes back on the young activists’ request, one child says: “The government is supposed to be for the people, by the people, and all for the people.”

“I’ve been doing this for 30 years. I know what I’ve been doing,” Feinstein responds. “You come in here and say it has to be my way or the highway. I’ve gotten elected. I just ran. I was elected by almost a million vote plurality and I know what I’m doing. Maybe people should listen a little bit.”

    <snip>
“I hear what you’re saying,” a teenage activist says. “But we’re the people who voted you, you’re supposed to listen to us.”

“How old are you?” Feinstein asks her.

“I’m 16,” the young woman responds.

“Well, you didn’t vote for me,” Feinstein says.

Later in the clip, Feinstein tells a young activist, “Well, you know better than I do. So I think one day you should run for the United States Senate and then you do it your way.”

“Great, I will,” the teenager responded.

I love it when they eat their own.

Feinstein is right, though. The Green New Deal is not a good plan and it doesn't stand a chance of passing a Republican-controlled Senate. The petulant "activists" are getting a messy lesson in party politics, and we are spared a terrible, economy-crashing environmental wackjob law that would be terrible for the country.

She's correct. If kids can't sign a binding contract for a house or car, they probably shouldn't vote.

        That is some good stuff.

        "We voted for you."

        "No."

It's been a long arc, but Feinstein is about to be taken down by the exact system she built.

The two are not mutually exclusive. The "Hillarycare" of 1993 was supposed to be the same thing - not a chance. And yet here we are with failed Obamacare.

We are not spared anything. Obama gets celebrated as the one who saved the economy and he's still considered to be the one responsible for the continued growth.

No, these people will not ever think their ideas will not work. Just look at Bok and Norm. They think Obama saved the economy and they think Trump is just riding Obama's (apparently very long) coattails.

I've attended many tedious presentations. Clinton's healthcare one ranked in the bottom. Forget the economics, the actual speech was just incredibly awful.

I was favorably toward her at that point. I walked out thinking, "This woman is an idiot".

Nope, statute was officially up on that one as soon as this thread was started.

So basically, Feinstein is the Trump of the Democrat Party.

She's the woman who let Christine Ford's information come out to the public so she could have Kananaugh publicly roasted. I saw a petition about her saying to thank her for supporting euthanasia. There's basically nothing about this woman that I like and this snotty attitude pretty enforced it for me. That sixteen year will be voting on whether to keep her in a primary one day.

And for people who think young people can't get rid of her, I've only got one thing to say to that. AOC. Love her or hate her, the truth is that's a direct result of people being snotty toward younger people and socialists. Just sayin.

She could have explained why she felt like it was a bad deal instead of being an ageist snot.

Doubtful. DiFi is 85 and looks every day of it. IF that 16-year old actually registers and votes (in California), her first opportunity to vote in an election that could affect Feinstein would be 2024, when DiFi will be 91. Assuming she lives that long.
"Since the historic ruling, the Lovings have become icons for equality. Mildred released a statement on the 40th anniversary of the ruling in 2007: 'I am proud that Richard’s and my name is on a court case that can help reinforce the love, the commitment, the fairness, and the family that so many people, Black or white, young or old, gay or straight, seek in life. I support the freedom to marry for all. That’s what Loving, and loving, are all about.'." - Mildred Loving (Loving v. Virginia)

AOC is the result of snotty voters needing someone to identify with - and some very nefarious cynics putting her there.

She worked her ass off to win the primaries, even tore up her own shoes. She didn't have rich people (activist groups or corporations) to help her. Like Trump, she's out of the establishment. That's why people identify with her. And honestly, calling those voters snotty won't be any more effective in winning them back than it is to call Trump supporters racist or stupid.

BTW, she's really not my cup of tea. I think she's too anti-Israel (when she's able to form an opinion of her own on it). I think she should have worked with Amazon to make sure they brought business to her state and respected worker regulations. If she didn't want the tax break, that could have been negotiated.

I'm just looking at this analytically. People are fed up with the establishment.

And actually, I do think it's good that we have an increase of younger people and women in congress after the previous election.

Expound on that some. How exactly did she work her ass off? Where does a bartender get the money to run a political campaign?
