That’s strong commercial! If she is a Democrat, I’d say she has a shot. But as for the notion she can’t be impugned by a malicious play of the race card, how quickly we forget!

All non-progressive People of Color get the same smear, house slaves, Uncle Toms, Aunt Jemima, Oreos, and probably a bunch l’ve forgotten.

By just standing up to the progressive juggernaut, this woman is showing rare courage.
    • "I'm a hell of a lot smarter than most of you guys." — Joe Biden, at Jesse Jackson's funeral, March 2026.
    • "That's all I do in my life. I make deals. I'm really good at it." — President Donald Trump, Oct. 13, 2025.
    • “Inside every progressive is a totalitarian screaming to get out,” — David Horowitz.
    • "We [Democrats] are all willing to work with anyone who is serious about doing the work of censoring the American people, and advancing progress." — Ayanna Pressley, explaining progressives.
    • "Florida is where Woke goes to die." — Ron DeSantis.
    • "No one is above the law, and everyone has the right to a trial to prove innocence." — Nancy Pelosi, explaining Lawfare.
    • “Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety”— Ben Franklin, who got it right.
    • "The way I see it, there's always, c'mon, there's always money. It's there." — Elizabeth Warren, explaining socialism.
    • "The interesting thing about the Green New Deal is it wasn't originally a climate thing at all.... We really think of it as a how-do-you-change-the-entire-economy thing." — Saikat Chakrabarti, then AOC's Chief of Staff.

When did Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez play the so-called "race card" against Joe Crowley in the 2018 Democratic Primary? Her campaign was straight forward Democratic Socialist policy proposals in a liberal district with a moderate representative.

I feel sorry for her. Hopefully, she can hold her own.
May we raise children who love the unloved things - the dandelion, the worm, the spiderlings.
Children who sense the rose needs the thorn and run into rainswept days the same way they turn towards the sun...
And when they're grown and someone has to speak for those who have no voice,
may they draw upon that wilder bond, those days of tending tender things and be the one.

I misunderstood. She is a Republican.

Although I don't remember Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez playing the so-called "race card" against Anthony Pappas, either. Still not seeing why this white grievance shibboleth was brought up.

            Sure.
It's been ten years since that lonely day I left you
In the morning rain, smoking gun in hand
Ten lonely years but how my heart, it still remembers

If she’s Republican she’s a near impossible long shot.

Ironically that takes the heat off her.

                The year's at the spring
                And day's at the morn;

Facts don't have a liberal bias:

THE IRONY THAT Crowley laments how he “can’t help” being white, while ignoring the political advantages he inherited, is not lost on Ocasio-Cortez. “The congressman could have helped that he accepted inheritance of his seat from a multigenerational political dynasty without a true primary — a process by which people of color are historically locked out of representation. The congressman could help that he voted to establish ICE. The congressman can help the fact that he accepts money from developers that are displacing our communities and the folks criminalizing our backyards,” she told The Intercept.

Of course, there was a lot more to the 28-year-old socialist’s message than just, “I’m a Latina, vote for me.” But that was certainly part of it — as well it should have been. The Democratic base has never been more eager to elect women than it is now, and New York’s 14th House District has never been less white. Joe Crowley might have been seen as the Speaker of tomorrow on Capitol Hill, but in his district, he’s a relic of the past. Few voters in Crowley’s corner of New York City — an area that’s half Hispanic, and 70 percent nonwhite — could see themselves in an Irish-American machine politician. Democratic socialists gave those voters the opportunity to elect someone whose ethnic and cultural identity more closely resembled their own; voters returned the favor by giving socialists a voice in the next Congress.
Socialists just put Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in Congress by exploiting the Democratic base’s hunger for more diverse representation.

In this race, Ocasio-Cortez was the insurgent candidate, taking on an already liberal Crowley from the left, and speaking loudly and enthusiastically against President Trump. “It used to be that a Democratic primary was about who the better Democrat was,” said one Democratic strategist who spoke on the condition of anonymity to talk candidly about the race. “Now it’s about who is the better progressive. … [Democratic] voters want their reps out in front of [Immigration and Customs Enforcement], attacking Trump, and being loud for what they believe.”

                    ...

Crowley has liberal bona fides: He’s been a strong proponent of the Affordable Care Act and, more recently, Medicare-for-all legislation, and is a harsh critic of Trump. But Ocasio-Cortez fashioned herself as the more progressive choice—a champion for workers and for racial justice.

                    ...

Crowley, a 56-year-old white man, also doesn’t look like a lot of his constituents: Half of the 14th district’s residents are immigrants, and 70 percent are people of color. Ocasio-Cortez grew up with two working-class parents in the Bronx. Her mother was born in Puerto Rico, and her father was from the South Bronx. The strategist told me the race illustrated not only a growing energy on the left, but also the importance of representatives being in tune with their district. “Being out of touch is never a good look,” the strategist said. “It brought down Cantor for the Republicans, and it claims a similarly situated Dem here.”

Pointing to "straight forward Democratic Socialist policy proposals in a liberal district" does not disprove her playing the race card - which she certainly did.
