Possibly the facepalm to end all facepalms

Despite conducting her own government business through a personal “homebrew” server while secretary of state, Hillary Clinton is seen in a newly obtained video lecturing her staff of their “special duty” to recognize the importance of cybersecurity.

“The real key to cybersecurity rests with you,” Clinton says in the 2010 video, which was obtained by FoxNews.com. “Complying with department computing policies and being alert to potential threats will help protect all of us.”

Clinton goes on in the video to underscore the important work the State Department Bureau of Diplomatic Security and IT department were doing to guard against cyber-attacks. She warns hackers try to “exploit” vulnerabilities and penetrate department systems. She then urges staffers to log onto the internal cybersecurity awareness website or subscribe to their “cybersecurity awareness newsletter.”

“Together we can do our part to improve the security of the State Department and of our nation,” Clinton says.

That's just her public view. Her private view was something different.

Hmm. So after giving a presentation on cyber security, Hillary uses a private server to do business. But, the government can't prove malicious intent?

She KNEW the risks, but proceeded anyhow, and yet that is not malicious?

What has surprised me most about the kerfluffle surrounding Hillary's personal server is why she hasn't come back with "if you want it done right, you gotta do it yourself."

I'm not saying her personal e-mail server would be any better secured than a State Dept one, but people who are really picky about their online security often run their own servers in-house so they can have total control over every setting. At least at the start, she easily could have spun this as being paranoid about her own e-mail securtity: instead, she's happily flapped in the breeze and basically acknowledged without acknowledging anything that her home server was probably half-assed and totally insecure.

The problem, from Clinton's perspective, is that it's far easier to claim ignorance than it is to claim expertise in front of a Congressional committee (or indeed any other investigative body).

If she claims " I didn't know" then no one can really prove that she actually did know in most cases (hence why all of the records of her going to any briefings on security have magically vanished).

If, however, she claims "well, I didn't think that the State Department's security was good enough, so I set up my own secure network," then she has to answer questions about how she set up this VPN and that SSL encryption and why XYZ was better than the ABC that the State Department already had in place. She can't really claim ignorance after the fact when she is simultaneously claiming expertise before the fact.

Because she's not intelligent. Read the leaked emails to find out, she's a dolt.

She's very smart, and that's our problem. She knows how to get away with stuff, how to not come off as much of a monster as the other side, etc.

But she's not smart. She plays the victim well, that's it.

Perhaps a Homer Simpson quote sums her up best, "Stupider like a fox!"
