Late News: Trump lost and hillary might have

Just want to know what kind of spin the supporters of the different candidates want to put on this unexpected result?

Everybody is still going to win.

This is the first stumble by The Donald. The video I saw showed him relatively subdued. I don't expect any spin from his camp, but I'm curious to see how he changes his campaign style from this moment on, because I do expect him to adjust.

Hillary has declared victory. A 'decisive" victory, no doubt. FOX hasn't declared yet (6 a.m. Tuesday), but it does look like she eked something out.

Three happy guys, Cruz showing his muscle, Rubio gets the Big Mo, and Bernie close enough to taste it.

The others talk long plans, you know, the sort that worked out so well for Rudy Giuliani.

A few are dropping out, but it matters so little I didn't catch who they were (Huckabee & O'Malley I know, thanks to Adam posting about it.)--there should be several others.
    • "I'm a hell of a lot smarter than most of you guys." — Joe Biden, at Jesse Jackson's funeral, March 2026.
    • "That's all I do in my life. I make deals. I'm really good at it." — President Donald Trump, Oct. 13, 2025.
    • “Inside every progressive is a totalitarian screaming to get out,” — David Horowitz.
    • "We [Democrats] are all willing to work with anyone who is serious about doing the work of censoring the American people, and advancing progress." — Ayanna Pressley, explaining progressives.
    • "Florida is where Woke goes to die." — Ron DeSantis.
    • "No one is above the law, and everyone has the right to a trial to prove innocence." — Nancy Pelosi, explaining Lawfare.
    • “Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety”— Ben Franklin, who got it right.
    • "The way I see it, there's always, c'mon, there's always money. It's there." — Elizabeth Warren, explaining socialism.
    • "The interesting thing about the Green New Deal is it wasn't originally a climate thing at all.... We really think of it as a how-do-you-change-the-entire-economy thing." — Saikat Chakrabarti, then AOC's Chief of Staff.

Wouldn't Clinton be tied with Sanders if not for the coin toss stuff?

It's an odd number of delegates (1681), so there can't be an actual tie.

ETA: I guess with O'Malley, there could still be an even number, but IIRC there wasn't last night. I'd have to look again, though.

Since delegates are apportioned proportionately, the slight difference is an effective tie anyway.

This is where Trump's bulletproof persona works against him. A 24% second place finish behind a 27% first place would be a strong showing for a normal candidate. But for Trump, it pierces the facade of invulnerability. The best description I've seen is that he "under-performed the polling," which basically undercuts his favorite go-to rallying statement (yuge leads in the polls).
              Enjoy.

I watched Hillary's speech last night with the volume muted. She looked angry so I'm sure she sounded that way too. But more than that, did anyone notice Bill behind her? He was continuously moving his mouth as if he had no control over it...really odd. Has he suffered a stroke that I missed?
May we raise children who love the unloved things - the dandelion, the worm, the spiderlings.
Children who sense the rose needs the thorn and run into rainswept days the same way they turn towards the sun...
And when they're grown and someone has to speak for those who have no voice,
may they draw upon that wilder bond, those days of tending tender things and be the one.

His whole theme seems to be "look how far ahead we are," which worked because he was showing the weakness of the establishment, from leading GOP figures to pundits like George Will.

So he'll need a new theme.

Ted Cruz punctured his narrative with his "New York values" charge. Trump replied with the Palin endorsement, and it looked like he had turned the charge aside.

But he also responded by making noises about being able to work with Democrats (Ted wouldn't, was the idea). Conservatives don't want another McCain, however. They don't want to "work with" the Dems, like Mitch O'Connell. They want to turn out the progressives and their corrosive agenda.

That's how he lost Iowa as I see it. Cruz beat him.

The Cruz camp has correctly identified the political but not the economic environment he is in and he still has the birther challenge ahead.

Your choice of analogy reveals a fundamental disdain for democratic governance. Nobody would favor a chess player who negotiated a compromise where both side walk away with a partial win. They do admire a chess player who can turn a defeat into stalemate.

Sanders rally chant: 'She's a liar!'

DES MOINES, Iowa — The room at Bernie Sanders' rally here turned ice cold when Hillary Clinton's speech took over the televisions here.

The crowd booed loudly at first, then cheered when the sound cut out. The sound soon returned and Clinton was drowned out by further boos when she said "I'm a progressive who gets things done."

It escalated from there: Chants of "She's a liar!" took over the room before the campaign just entirely shut off the stream, cutting away from MSNBC entirely.
