    DeSantis drops out

DeSantis Drops Out of Presidential Race | The Epoch Times

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has withdrawn his candidacy for the Republican Party’s 2024 presidential nomination.

On Jan. 21, in a four-and-a-half minute video posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, the Florida governor announced he ended his bid for the presidency. The announcement came two days ahead of the New Hampshire primary.

“Following our second-place finish in Iowa, we’ve prayed and deliberated on the way forward. If there was anything I could do to produce a favorable outcome—more campaign stops, more interviews—I would do it. But I can’t ask our supporters to volunteer their time and donate their resources if we don’t have a clear path to victory,” Mr. DeSantis said in his video message.

“Accordingly, I am now today suspending my campaign.”

In the same announcement, Mr. DeSantis endorsed former President Donald Trump, the GOP frontrunner.

“He has my endorsement because we cannot go back to the old Republican guard of yesteryear,” Mr. DeSantis said. “A repackaged form of warmed-over corporatism that Nikki Haley represents.”

So the election year drama is reduced to guessing if Old Joe will live long enough to fail in November?
    • "I'm a hell of a lot smarter than most of you guys." — Joe Biden, at Jesse Jackson's funeral, March 2026.
    • "That's all I do in my life. I make deals. I'm really good at it." — President Donald Trump, Oct. 13, 2025.
    • “Inside every progressive is a totalitarian screaming to get out,” — David Horowitz.
    • "We [Democrats] are all willing to work with anyone who is serious about doing the work of censoring the American people, and advancing progress." — Ayanna Pressley, explaining progressives.
    • "Florida is where Woke goes to die." — Ron DeSantis.
    • "No one is above the law, and everyone has the right to a trial to prove innocence." — Nancy Pelosi, explaining Lawfare.
    • “Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety”— Ben Franklin, who got it right.
    • "The way I see it, there's always, c'mon, there's always money. It's there." — Elizabeth Warren, explaining socialism.
    • "The interesting thing about the Green New Deal is it wasn't originally a climate thing at all.... We really think of it as a how-do-you-change-the-entire-economy thing." — Saikat Chakrabarti, then AOC's Chief of Staff.

I wonder if Joe Manchin and the No Labels party could entice Nikki to get onboard.

A split ticket really could win. Most Democrats don't want Biden and only about half Republicans want Trump.

Have you read any of the "President's Henchman" series (novels)? They're light reading but posit just such a ticket and it winning. Quite amusing.
"Since the historic ruling, the Lovings have become icons for equality. Mildred released a statement on the 40th anniversary of the ruling in 2007: 'I am proud that Richard’s and my name is on a court case that can help reinforce the love, the commitment, the fairness, and the family that so many people, Black or white, young or old, gay or straight, seek in life. I support the freedom to marry for all. That’s what Loving, and loving, are all about.'." - Mildred Loving (Loving v. Virginia)

Never read them, but this year it would actually work.

          I'm up for that option.

I do think you would enjoy the books, too.

Where does that come from? His victory margin in Iowa?

A viable third party is a fantasy, just as it was for Ross Perot (he got my brother's vote...) or Teddy Roosevelt. If only half of the GOP supports Trump the Dems will coast to a historic victory.

It's more likely a Party will die like the Whigs did. Certainly more likely than a gadfly like Ralph Nader, John Anderson, RFK Jr. or Dean Smith becoming president.

What I'm much more afraid of this time around is political violence, including assassination. RFK Sr. comes to mind.

Dean Smith? Slipping back to the golden NCAA years at UNC Chapel Hill, with Michael Jordan & company. I guess a glass of wine is WD-40 for your brain.

Dean Phillips is the current gadfly, of course.

He got mine too. Perot ran a terrible campaign and had a (politically) horrendous running mate.

If Trump wins the nomination Biden is going to win. Too many people will not vote for Trump again.

I think that's been the Democratic strategy from the start. And likewise the GOP hopes Biden stays in the saddle (with duct tape, maybe) through Election Day.

You're prediction will be tested, since it appears Trump will indeed coast to the nomination. Biden will need about 90 million votes to beat him at the ballot box.

I don't think "convictions" in these clown courts will destroy Trump as expected, any more than the indictments have. And with people like Fani Willis, Alvin Bragg and Jack Smith running the show, it's a race to see which wheel falls off first and hardest.

I believe the Democrats are trolling hard for a witless agent to rid them of this turbulent priest, King Henry II style.

This image in a tweet from Alex Soros has received some attention, for example:

The GOP Convention is in mid-July, and I think the "long, hot summer" from that point until November will be very dangerous. Not for nothing, I expect a lot of "false flag" death threats directed at Democrats, too.
