May we raise children who love the unloved things - the dandelion, the worm, the spiderlings.
Children who sense the rose needs the thorn and run into rainswept days the same way they turn towards the sun...
And when they're grown and someone has to speak for those who have no voice,
may they draw upon that wilder bond, those days of tending tender things and be the one.
Yes, if anyone has any information about him, I'd be very interested to hear it.
"Since the historic ruling, the Lovings have become icons for equality. Mildred released a statement on the 40th anniversary of the ruling in 2007: 'I am proud that Richard’s and my name is on a court case that can help reinforce the love, the commitment, the fairness, and the family that so many people, Black or white, young or old, gay or straight, seek in life. I support the freedom to marry for all. That’s what Loving, and loving, are all about.'." - Mildred Loving (Loving v. Virginia)
I’m watching Hillbilly Elegy now. Was going to download the book but figured this is a shortcut. It’s his book about his life. His family is from Appalachia. He grew up in Ohio but was primarily raised by his Kentucky grandmother. He’s Catholic. He’s married to a woman whose family is Indian and he and she chose Vance as a last name when they married (not his given name)
Not where I breathe, but where I love, I live...

Where are you watching it, Philly?

I would have preferred Vivek Ramaswamy. Oh well...

Vance is almost a DEI pick, putting the first "millennial" on a national ticket (quick, who was the first not-a-World War II vet?) not to mention the almost-novel idea of NOT picking a female of color. . . .
His resume and also his wife's is remarkable. He was a never-Trumper in 2016, but I don't mind their past ideological transgressions. I think it may give him considerable insight in reaching others who also were quite differently disposed.

“Inside every progressive is a totalitarian screaming to get out,” — David Horowitz.
"We [Democrats] are all willing to work with anyone who is serious about doing the work of censoring the American people, and advancing progress." — Ayanna Pressley, explaining progressives.
"Florida is where Woke goes to die." — Ron DeSantis.
"No one is above the law, and everyone has the right to a trial to prove innocence." — Nancy Pelosi, explaining Lawfare.
“Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety”— Ben Franklin, who got it right.
"The way I see it, there's always, c'mon, there's always money. It's there." — Elizabeth Warren, explaining socialism.
"The interesting thing about the Green New Deal is it wasn't originally a climate thing at all.... We really think of it as a how-do-you-change-the-entire-economy thing." — Saikat Chakrabarti, then AOC's Chief of Staff.

A lot of folks seem to think he was an excellent choice, and maybe he is. I hope so.
Want to see him debate Harris.

That will be abortion...abortion,..abortion
Robert Francis O'Rourke, Democrat, White guy, spent ~78 million to defeat, Ted Cruz, Republican immigrant Dark guy and lost
But the Republicans are racist.
Not if he's smart. Nobody yet has hit her about her disgraceful tenure as a prosecutor, since she wasn't considered a serious contender when she was a presidential candidate. The key will be to force her to debate (or dodge) specific problems that the executive branch can legally and practically address. The Supreme Court has made abortion a state issue, and only Congress can change that, if the impetus is there. He needs to focus on issues within their collective purview.

I really doubt she and Vance will debate each other.

Vance has almost no political experience. That could be a good thing or it could be a terrible thing. He has excellent oratory skills and is very articulate. Many past VP picks were there to "sell the agenda" so he should be good for that. He's also a combat veteran, first VP nominee since George H. W. Bush. That gives him unique insight that is valuable. As a Marine, his dedication is unquestionable. He's also quite accomplished growing up poor in Ohio-Kentucky, to Ohio State, to Yale Law, then to Silicon Valley venture capital. He then started his own VC firm to bring tech money to Ohio. That's quite a lot in 15 years.
He's a politician, so his views are wobbly. But he doesn't set policy, so as a political animal his views will be defined by what he thinks he can get done and what he thinks he can use to win elections. You won't hear it from the left anymore but he's known in the Senate for reaching across the aisle.
His views on abortion are awkward and unsustainable. He has communicated absolutist points like no exceptions for rape and incest in the past, but has downplayed those now that his running mate and party are not that extreme.
Trump definitely injected legacy into this race by picking a 39 year old. If he wins that makes a clear distinction between Democrats and Republicans. There are no Democrats that young who could feasibly win in 2028.
