    Swedes and immigration

Daniel Cuevas Zuniga had just finished a night shift on a Sunday last month, and was cycling home with his wife, when he spotted a spherical object lying on the ground, stopped and reached down to take it in his hand.

It was an M-75 hand grenade. Manufactured in great numbers for the Yugoslav national army, and then seized by paramilitaries during the civil war in the 1990s, the grenades are packed with plastic explosives and 3,000 steel balls, well suited for attacks on enemy trenches and bunkers. When Mr. Zuniga touched it, he set off the detonator.

The shock wave was so powerful that Mr. Zuniga’s wife, Wanna, riding ahead of him, was blown off her bicycle and sprawled on the ground, mottled with shrapnel wounds. She turned and tried to crawl toward her husband, she told a reporter later, but the police, who had been patrolling nearby, kept her back.

Weapons from a faraway, long-ago war are flowing into immigrant neighborhoods here, puncturing Swedes’ sense of confidence and security.

Didn't Trump take heat from the main stream media for saying there were issues from unvetted immigration in Sweden?

This is an enormous problem for Swedes on many, many levels. The crime, welfare fraud, educational, and unemployment issues are very bad as you might expect. "Newcomers" generally come from cultures that are almost diametrically opposed to core Swedish values on everything. That's bad.

The deeper, much, much worse problem is that Swedes are not allowed to discuss this openly or even privately in many venues (bars, restaurants, fika, etc.). There are legal consequences for what we would consider pretty sober observations on social media and non-legal social consequences (your job, your apartment, your gym, your kid's school, etc.) if the wrong person overhears you.

Swedes are very conformist despite their non-Nordic image as sexual wantons and Vikings but the current situation is testing that to the breaking point.

Unlike Americans, the average Swede is massively pragmatic. We have no equivalent to this currently in our culture (we did but that's another post).

The cognitive dissonance is getting so extreme that it's making people crazy in private.

We'll see where it ends up.

You might be thinking of the time that subliterate moron said in a speech "You look at what’s happening last night in Sweden" when nothing in particular had happened the previous night in Sweden. It turned out he said "last night" because that was when he had watched Tucker Carlson give an alarmist report.
      Enjoy.

Was Carlson aired in all 57 states?
