I was definitely taught the metric system in school for the absolute reason that we would all be using the metric system once I reached adulthood. Measurements continue to be my achilles' heel. And I've forgotten most of what I've ever known about the metric system, other than it's a base 10 system (which is far easier than our system) and that a 5k is 3.2 miles. While driving in Canada I failed to realize that the signs were posted in metrics but my speedometer was in mph. Add to that that we were late for a ticketed event and I'm damn lucky I'm not still in jail!
Not where I breathe, but where I love, I live...

"Since the historic ruling, the Lovings have become icons for equality. Mildred released a statement on the 40th anniversary of the ruling in 2007: 'I am proud that Richard’s and my name is on a court case that can help reinforce the love, the commitment, the fairness, and the family that so many people, Black or white, young or old, gay or straight, seek in life. I support the freedom to marry for all. That’s what Loving, and loving, are all about.'." - Mildred Loving (Loving v. Virginia)
