Tampon grrrrl doesn't pay her taxes, either.

The Internal Revenue Service has placed a tax lien on Melissa Harris-Perry and her husband, James Perry, for about $70,000 in delinquent taxes, according to a notice filed in Forsyth County Hall of Justice earlier this month.

Harris-Perry is a well-known host of an MSNBC talk show and a professor at Wake Forest University. The IRS filed the notice April 6.

In an email Wednesday, Harris-Perry said she was unaware of the tax lien but knew about the debt. She said she and her husband paid $21,721 of the debt when they filed their taxes Wednesday. The remaining debt, $48,581, covers a tax period ending Dec. 31, 2013, according to the notice.

Harris-Perry said she and her husband had been working to pay off the debt but had to deal with a series of personal crises that caused the couple to pay off the debt a lot slower than expected.

“We were aware that we would continue to need to work to pay off the 2013 debt,” she said in the email.
For all their talk about how people need to "pay their fair share," there sure are a whole lot of Leftists who don't like to pay their fair share. She has an estimated net worth over $40M, and an income of one and a quarter million dollars a year. She could easily pay off the IRS in a couple of weeks even if her bank account is $0 today. And yet she doesn't do this.

    Imagine that.
It's been ten years since that lonely day I left you
In the morning rain, smoking gun in hand
Ten lonely years but how my heart, it still remembers
Pray for me, momma, I'm a gypsy now

                Typical leftist.

I don't even understand how a person can make a $70,000 mistake in calculating taxes. Surely in that income bracket, she has a professional do her taxes.
"Since the historic ruling, the Lovings have become icons for equality. Mildred released a statement on the 40th anniversary of the ruling in 2007: 'I am proud that Richard’s and my name is on a court case that can help reinforce the love, the commitment, the fairness, and the family that so many people, Black or white, young or old, gay or straight, seek in life. I support the freedom to marry for all. That’s what Loving, and loving, are all about.'." - Mildred Loving (Loving v. Virginia)

IRS rules are contradictory. In most situations a set of expenses are categorized as one type (say Cost of Goods Sold) instead of another (Capital Investments). That changes the amounts that can be deducted at any given time and the IRS uses case law to justify a decision.

We took loans from the company that our auditor counted as income until we were at the negotiation. He allowed half of the loans to be counted as loans and used a court case citation for his justification.

He disallowed expensing product we sold at the time we purchased it because we used a line of credit to purchase them and paid the obligation one month later (bought in December, paid the bank in January). He cited a court case for this decision.

But when he calculated when we took the loans, he used the date of the memo we recorded instead of the date we actually made the transfer (it was 3-6 months later and sometimes in another year). He used another case to cite the authority for that decision. The problem was that this case also had the court ruling AGAINST the IRS for counting payment for goods sold at the time of paying off the loan instead of the purchase date of the product.

There are all sorts of intricacies in the tax code and the IRS auditors manipulate them.
