    I have seen it happen to many boards I have been on over the years. Sad.

      Damn, I thought this would be about music.

      My favorite Dead song is either Box of Rain or Sugar Magnolia, but you can't beat Truckin' for road music.

          OK, I'll try to revive it.

          Do any of you historians know if there has ever been a concerted effort to financially ruin a President (other than Trump) and his family?
          The year's at the spring
          And day's at the morn;
          Morning's at seven;
          The hill-side's dew-pearled;
          The lark's on the wing;
          The snail's on the thorn:

          All's right with the world!

              Friend of the Devil is a good one, too. And Uncle John's Band is fun.

                I do like all the ones you listed. Which song was the one that kind of "broke through" and people other than "dead heads" started to pay attention? Was it Sugar Magnolia or Touch of Grey?

                  Probably Sugar Magnolia. Eminently danceable and pretty clear, unmetaphorical lyrics.

                      I must disagree. "Touch of Gray" was all over the radio and MTV.

                          LOL! Oh, I agree. But MTV brought the Dead and a lot of other bands to a new generation.

                            Yeah, that was my point. The Dead was known and appreciated by a select group of fans, hard core fans. I couldn't remember which song it was that brought it to mainstream...as in every preppy college kid suddenly "discovering" them. I guess it was Touch of Grey. I was a preppy college student, however, my boyfriend was not. So when Touch of Gray came out it was funny to me. I'm not hugely into music, but I knew so many of the Dead songs because of my boyfriend and his friends who had been going to the shows for year.

                              Ah, I didn't realize you were speaking of "breaking through" to the children of people who weren't deadheads. Because I wasn't (and still am not) a true Dead fan. Never went to a concert, never followed them in my converted van (of which I didn't have one), only ever owned one of their albums. But serious deadheads were already gray-haired by the time MTV came along. Sugar Magnolia turned a lot of us non-deadheads into casual Dead fans nearly a generation earlier than MTV. I'm actually not sure I've ever heard this Touch of Grey.

                              ETA: So, for those who remember, which was their greatest album: Workingman's Dead or American Beauty?
