Damn, I thought this would be about music.
My favorite Dead song is either Box of Rain or Sugar Magnolia, but you can't beat Truckin' for road music."Since the historic ruling, the Lovings have become icons for equality. Mildred released a statement on the 40th anniversary of the ruling in 2007: 'I am proud that Richard’s and my name is on a court case that can help reinforce the love, the commitment, the fairness, and the family that so many people, Black or white, young or old, gay or straight, seek in life. I support the freedom to marry for all. That’s what Loving, and loving, are all about.'." - Mildred Loving (Loving v. Virginia)

OK, I'll try to revive it.
Do any of you historians know if there has ever been a concerted effort to financially ruin a President (other than Trump) and his family?The year's at the spring
And day's at the morn;
Morning's at seven;
The hill-side's dew-pearled;
The lark's on the wing;
The snail's on the thorn:
God's in his heaven—
All's right with the world!

Friend of the Devil is a good one, too. And Uncle John's Band is fun."Since the historic ruling, the Lovings have become icons for equality. I do like all the ones you listed. Which song was the one that kind of "broke through" and people other than "dead heads" started to pay attention? Was it Sugar Magnolia or Touch of Grey?Originally posted by Celeste Chalfonte View PostDamn, I thought this would be about music.

Probably Sugar Magnolia. Eminently danceable and pretty clear, unmetaphorical lyrics.Originally posted by phillygirl View PostI do like all the ones you listed. Grant was scammed out of his life's savings and was forced to write his memoirs in an attempt to make some money to take care of his wife and family after he died.

I must disagree. "Touch of Gray" was all over the radio and MTV.Originally posted by Celeste Chalfonte View PostProbably Sugar Magnolia. Eminently danceable and pretty clear, unmetaphorical lyrics.“I do not aim with my hand; he who aims with his hand has forgotten the face of his father.

LOL! Oh, I agree. But MTV brought the Dead and a lot of other bands to a new generation.Originally posted by Celeste Chalfonte View PostYeah...17 YEARS after Sugar Magnolia. Fie on your MTV.“I do not aim with my hand; he who aims with his hand has forgotten the face of his father.

Yeah, that was my point. The Dead was known and appreciated by a select group of fans, hard core fans. I couldn't remember which song it was that brought it to mainstream...as in every preppy college kid suddenly "discovering" them. I guess it was Touch of Grey. I was a preppy college student, however, my boyfriend was not. So when Touch of Gray came out it was funny to me. I'm not hugely into music, but I knew so many of the Dead songs because of my boyfriend and his friends who had been going to the shows for year.Originally posted by Celeste Chalfonte View PostYeah...17 YEARS after Sugar Magnolia. Ah, I didn't realize you were speaking of "breaking through" to the children of people who weren't deadheads. Because I wasn't (and still am not) a true Dead fan. Never went to a concert, never followed them in my converted van (of which I didn't have one), only ever owned one of their albums. But serious deadheads were already gray-haired by the time MTV came along. Sugar Magnolia turned a lot of us non-deadheads into casual Dead fans nearly a generation earlier than MTV. I'm actually not sure I've ever heard this Touch of Grey.Originally posted by phillygirl View PostYeah, that was my point. ETA: So, for those who remember, which was their greatest album: Workingman's Dead or American Beauty?Last edited by Celeste Chalfonte; Friday, July 2, 2021, 8:19 AM."Since the historic ruling, the Lovings have become icons for equality.
