    So, today I went to Target.

    Why? Why not?

    I even used the bathroom in there. Immediately, I saw something I did not like. The door was open. So much for privacy. I hate that. I went in and found something unnatural. It was where somebody took a crap in the toilet. The last flush didn't quite get it all.

    Once I left the bathroom, I noticed the eatery was closed. I thought the person in charge was on break, but it didn't seem to open back up later. I looked around and saw the sodas I wanted to buy were the same price as at Wal-Mart. They were two for five dollars. I asked myself if I wanted to buy them since I didn't agree with their political stance. I decided I did want to buy them because I don't appreciate all the jobs being lost from the boycott toward NC, so I won't do the same. I am officially anti-trying to bankrupt people. Besides, they forgave my debt in time for tax season. I sort of owe them some money. Buying their stuff doesn't make it right, but still. I can't be getting self-righteous.

    Then, I went into the bankrupt mall (nothing to do with politics. It just shouldn't be there since everything's gone). I went to Bath & Body Works and ended up with three different scents on me before I bought my sister's present (none of the three scents I tried. lol).

    Zombie malls seem to be all over the country. I called Celeste as I was going to Macy's in Southgate Mall (suburban SF) and told her it was the saddest Macy's I had ever seen. I was standing at the mens fragrances counter trying to figure out how much things cost (nothing seems to have prices on it anymore) and two employees were talking to each other over a clipboard for a good five minutes before one of them deigned to greet me. I know I don't look like a fashion plate anymore, but I might have been buying a gift for someone. I felt like Julia Roberts.

    Speaking of Julia Roberts, I heard on the radio the other day that the original screenplay didn't have a happy ending. Julia's character returns to her life of prostitution and drugs.
    The year's at the spring
    And day's at the morn;
    Morning's at seven;
    The hill-side's dew-pearled;
    The lark's on the wing;
    The snail's on the thorn:
    God's in his heaven—
    All's right with the world!

      Pretty Woman probably gave young girls the wrong impression of hooker life.

        First, it wasn't made for "young girls." It was an adult movie.

        Second, it was A MOVIE. Not a documentary, a fictional story told on film. Terminator wasn't a real good guide to life for young boys, either.

        Not everything is designed to provide role models for children. Entertainment would be deadly dull if it were.

I support the freedom to marry for all. That’s what Loving, and loving, are all about.'." - Mildred Loving (Loving v. Virginia)

          Yeah, but young girls really can't be stupid.

          I don't think anybody could ever believe they could become The Terminator.

              I don't really whatTarget's bathroom policy is as long as they keep being a cleaner, quieter and more upscale Walmart. Between the 5% discount using a Target debit card, using Cartwheel and the lack of thousands of screaming petulant children and savages destroying the place like you find at Walmart, it will always be a better deal for me. For both my wallet and my sanity.

                Agreed.

                And there's no Wal-Mart within NYC limits anyway.

                        It's funny. In the intolerant south, we have both Wal-Mart and Target. We also have Sears and Home Depot (big supporters of gay rights).

                          It's not specific to the South. Walmart is not allowed in highly liberal areas where communities have legislated zoning to keep them out. NYC, Chicago, Detroit, Seattle, San Francisco, etc.

                          You know, where poor and working class people might want to buy a low-cost set of sheets or maybe some paper towels.

                            The irony is that Target doesn't treat their employees much better than Wal-Mart does. I did my own research into that years ago.

                              Would you care to back that up with a citation to such legislation?

                              Many residential/mixed use neighborhoods in SF oppose ANY new chain stores, but that's most often applied to companies like Starbucks, Bath & Body Works and similar boutique chains that tend to come in and drive out locally owned businesses that already provide a comparable or better product in the same or sometimes lower price range.

                              There are some large chain stores (Target, Costco, Trader Joe's, Toys R Us, etc) in the old warehouse districts that are being turned into urban malls. For the most part, there is simply no room for a huge store like Walmart, and if there were, the real estate cost would probably be prohibitive. I'm not aware of there being any law in SF excluding Walmart. Maybe they should try putting a store in the Bayview district. The City would probably welcome it with open arms.
